Can I deactivate Facebook yet retain Messenger?

Almost in my 82nd year, legs are weary and it's all too easy to allow sitting down with FB to rule. Think it's time to deactivate, but need messenger, is this possible. Isn't fb linked to msgr?

Cannot answer your question, but you could stop using both Facebook and Messenger and use Whatsapp for your messaging

Yes, something to think about, however I have a preference to use messenger instead of whatapp, thanks anyway
  • err WhatsApp is also owned by Facebook.
  • Are you on a phone/tablet or desktop/laptop?
If a phone, then you might be able to remove or deactivate the Facebook app and only install the Messenger app.

yes it is owned by facebook but it's not facebook

you could try deactivating facebook and see if messenger works.

i know about android - go to settings, apps, facebook, force stop. If messenger still works then try uninstalling fb - if you are allowed to

Yes, So when you about to deactivate account there will be a option you tick that says something like, I want to deactivate my account but keep messanger. You will need the app to continue using it.

You don't need to actually go into FB to use messenger, just use the separate messenger app.

One option would be to remove all of your FB content and carry on using Messenger.

Just caught your post, what if the messenger I'm currently using is the FB version, not the standalone version?.

The right action depends on what you are specifically trying to achieve:
    1) regain control of your data: delete your Facebook account or previous posts, but you may loose access to messenger
    2) regain control of your time: delete the Facebook app, and only use the messenger app. Your data stays on Facebook servers, you just don't access and view other peoples posts.
