At least with other supermarkets you can access their offers with an easily available card. More than once I've been into Lidl, only to find they'd inflated the price of something for those unwilling to use a smartphone. Maybe that's why some of my neighbours have also stopped shopping there.

That's the same reason I've stopped shopping at Sainsbury's.  Lots of extra offers are only available via their app.  Also OH & I have to have separate cards - unlike Tescos.  As for Lidl he knows he just needs to give them my mobile number to get his shopping accruing to my account.  I think that also means that he gets whatever offers I've activated.

edited to add: I was really surprised that Lidl was completely sold out of mozzarella yesterday.  Maybe everyone is like me and likes a mozza and tomato salad when it's hot.
I heard on Farming Today the other morning that its because of an outbreak of lumpy skin disease (first I've heard of that particular affliction) in Europe which means there have been restrictions on dairy imports. I think the British Isles is pretty much self-sufficient for milk but products that come from outside have hit the restaurant industry hard.

When I went into Aldi the other evening I picked up a 900ml tub of their standard vanilla ice-cream. The only good thing I can say about it is that it is piped into the container to make eight convenient servings. I'm just trying to work out what to do with the other 7/8, it was hardly palatable. Not horrid, just meh.

I think Aldi has realised that Lidl is onto a winner! Which suggests its only a matter of time before it too goes down the loyalty card route. Its a small incentive but enough to have pulled me away from other supermarkets. In the first six month of the year I have apparently saved £44.17! Much of this will have been free bakery goodies c/o the spin of surprises, I also think there were a couple of spend £30 save £5 deals which were worthwhile.
Talking about apps, Lidl are about to trial scan and go on their app.

They have it already in other countries.

That would really help me. The most run-down stores locally that has a known problem with shoplifters has now installed self-service machines and a receipt-controlled barrier exit so the infrastructure is in place. The SAs also wear bodycams and its not unusual to see a police officer outside. I avoided this store for the best part of a year because of the queues at the tills. I was told that management had slimmed down staffing to save money.

The cooked vacuum packed beetroot have been missing from my local Aldi for two weeks now, another item gone or a temporary shortage?
A few of my regular items have been missing from our local Aldi for the last couple weeks - namely the Scottish oats and probiotic drinks. I hope they come back in stock. Other recent ‘missing items’ such as orange skinny whips are now not even on the shelf label (only mint and toffee), however the own brand Honey Nut Flakes were also absent for a few weeks but have now thankfully returned (they are better than Lidl’s according to my OH).

They are much of a muchness in my view. I bought a couple of packs from Lidl when they had 10p knocked off the price about a month ago.

Aldi's ice-cream offering has redeemed itself with this - I served it this evening and it was lovely! And about 1/2 the price of Waitrose equivalents:

Quoting my own post, but popped into a different Aldi as I was passing today and no Scottish oats or probiotic drinks in that store either.

Dare I buy the Aldi version?  OH had bought the Lidl one and I've had to put up with "why did anyone buy this, it's disgusting" every time he has had a bowl.

I’ve not tried either version but husbands complaint about the Lidl ones is that the flakes are too small 😂 He hasn’t really said anything about the taste. Said he would finish the box but it’s taking a lot longer than normal and he was glad when the Aldi ones reappeared on the shelf last week.

Probably a good thing, they are just too easy to eat. Now I think about it I haven't been that tempted by the supply lurking in my pantry. I had put that down to having nicer seasonal fruit to snack on. Like nectarines  B)

I bought some cherries from Lidl this lunchtime (weekly offer) and they were big, near black in colour and absolutely delicious! They were just to easy to devour  :)
