For UC there's a 3 month waiting period from the date you reported the health condition. The extra money of £343.63 is then paid from the 4th month.
For ESA there's a 13 week assessment period. From the 14th week you'll receive in total £114.10 per week.

For ESA do i have to call them and tell them or will it be done automatically?

It should be done automatically and you should get a letter saying you have been placed in the Support Group and the date from which you are entitled to the higher payment.

Your UC maximum amount increases by £343.63 but because your ESA increase the ESA deduction from UC will be higher. Overall you will be better off by £343.63/month but the increase will effectively be split between ESA and UC.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Denny54 how long did you wait for the decision after your assessment? Just out of interest, currently waiting for husbands health assessment from esa.

Decision waiting times vary wildly, depending on backlog in your area. I returned my daughters WCA form at the start of April and she has a telephone assessment on 2nd June. To be honest, there's no timescales.

    Wow, that's quick!
Before Covid, we were advising customers in our area that the wait was ~6 weeks, but as @poppy12345 said, the waiting times can vary wildly. Perhaps they are shorter now as things have only just started back up, so no backlog of assessments waiting to be processed.

I've heard of people having a decison the following day and this was before Covid.

Oh wow that is quick! Maybe yours was an easy case :)
He was first awarded ESA in dec 2019, back dated to July 2019 (one of their first but many mistakes as he was wrongly turned down based on his NI contributions) then we returned the WCA form feb 2020.
Then due to problems their end and their inability to communicate between each other: health assessments/dwp and many complaints later we finally got given an interview date of 17th May at also beginning of may!

So it was 6 days ago. I called up thursday to request the report and apparently it's not on the system yet so I bet it's going to take a while before we get a decision. I'm just hoping they have put him in the support group as he matches at least 2 of the support group descriptors. We are also on UC as I work part time and am his carer and spoke to them a while back about them doing their assessment on his due to ESA taking ages but they said just wait for ESA. If so that extra £340 LWCRA payment will make so much difference to help us pay for everything.

I am very happy to hear when others get what they should!

Sometimes reports are sent to audit, if this has happened it's nothing for you to worry about, it's more about them checking the HCP. Reports are chosen at random but there's no timescales of how long they will be in audit for. It's happened to me twice and the 2nd time it was in audit for 6 weeks. A decision can't be made until the report has been returned to DWP.
