Opus energy - An absolute nightmare!

Thats fair enough, but then you say he hasn't had it on since september, so you'll have to add another £300 a month to the already astronomical bill.bravo93 said:
It costs about £5-10 a day (depending on weather) to heat a small pool with an electric heater apparently. He was doing that June to September. Then the fact it's quite big, old, probably not well insulated with old storage heaters etc.niktheguru said:What were the unit rate and standing charges for his bulb account?
How is he using so much energy? Surely alarm bells should be ringing at £4500 a year, even for an all electric house. That is crazy!!
Perhaps this is how much he uses, and bulb were massively underestimating use as he wasn't providing readings, but if I were you I would investigate his usage and try and make some cost savings. He must be a rich man if he can afford these energy charges.....or even consider if he can get gas to the property for heating....it'll probably make substantial savings.
Also when you say the meter guy did some "tidying up" what do you mean? The henle blocks near the meter look like they've been recently replaced, perhaps thats what he did.
The whole electrical setup seems overcomplicated. What does he actually do in his house. is it just him or are there others living there. There are no other linked houses/outhouses etc to the property?0 -
To my inexpert eye, everything in the current colour codes looks new - the Henley blocks, the 4-pole switch, the brown-and-blue tails. Possibly all that was done by the meter installer?niktheguru said:Also when you say the meter guy did some "tidying up" what do you mean? Ah yes, i wasn't sure if that 4 pole switch was new or not, but looking closer it looks like the mini consumer unit in the top centre has been completely disconnected from any circuit too. Perhaps the meter guy has connected a circuit that was previously not in use but on which is draining power in some way. (given that this was all self installed by the homeowner many years ago maybe its a spaghetti junction of electrics inside).....definitely needs a good sort out by an electrician to find out what is draining all that power.QrizB said:

Hi,
I have a regrettable experience with Opus Energy.
Back in 2014 I have bought an existing company and change the name of the company and carried on with existing business account and the business energy contract and, I have used the same contract to pay monthly direct debits.
I have also informed Opus Energy for change of the company name and.
During the period of six years, I have never been called by the Opus Energy (Even though, I have called them many times to ask about a new tariff and they have assured me that my payments are reducing every year.) to be informed about how much that I could save or how much I was paying every year…
After the start of the pandemic unfortunately, I had no chose but to close my business. Later, I have informed Opus Energy about my business closure, and they said you do not owe anything, and I took their word and did not do anything.
One and a half years later I have decided to check online to see my account is still existed and I have logged on and found out that Opus Energy Charged me almost over £4500 during six years and I have never been informed.
It clearly shows my Opus Energy online account that there is a credit/over payment of £4500.
Later, I have call them and write an email for them to refund back this £4500; unfortunately, last four months I have been ignored and refused to be refunded.
Many emails later, I have received an email saying that I owed them little more then what they owed me. I have asked them to send me the prove of what I have owed them but again, they did not respond back to me…
They have charged/ direct debited from my account regularly every month and my Opus Energy online account clearly showing detailed monthly payments and the credits but still I am refused to be refunded the money they have over charged during six years…
All in all, my experience with Opus Energy clearly shows that they do not care and regards to their customers; only thing that they are focused on getting a payment by deceiving the customers.
I would strongly advise you to stay away from OPUS ENERGY!...
