That's all the electrical stuff. Everything is in his property.

I moved into a property supplied by Opus. What a disaster.
The bill was similar with a 130ish pence standing charges (times two fuels) and 20% vat.
I refused to pay on the basis it's a breach of the ofgem price cap/wrong vat etc, and they refused to let me switch. Eventually the energy ombudsman ordered them to let me switch, pay compensation and honour the rates of the supplier I was trying to switch to.
OP: complain a few times in writing so you have a record. Try to switch to get away from these horrendous people. Escalate to the energy ombudsman is you have no resolution in time.1 -
There's some meaty equipment there - including a three phase supply which is rare in a domestic situation but the meter appears to be single phase and there are two other circuits disappearing somewhere.. Was your Granddads house once something commercial or business - guest house, dentist .........?
What is the single phase meter towards the bottom of the picture ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Robin9 said:There's some meaty equipment there - including a three phase supplyI only see one phase and neutral going into the meter? The two lives coming out could be main supply, plus a second switched supply for the storage heaters? The second black meter seems to measure power to the swimming pool heater. The incoming supply is the black cable at the bottom of the meter box but I'm also wondering where the grey cables cable-tied to it go when they leave the picture.Edit to add: 8200kWh in 31 days is 264kWh per day, or 11kW continuously. Are you sure the pool heater isn't running permanently? And that he's not growing cannabis under lamps in his shed?N. Hampshire, he/him. Could you read the "swimming pool " meter daily please.
@QrizB Yes a three phase supply and a single phase meter for Granddad but where are the other two phases going to ? There are problems here other Opus.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
It's certainly an amazing birds' nest. But what on earth is the red cable at the top doing? It seems to get trapped by the door, which is prevented from closing properly. That cannot have been installed professionally and it's obviously potentially unsafe if the insulation becomes damaged. The yellow and black tape is also somewhat suspicious.Lots of things aren't right here...0

Given its quite an involved set up. It might be worth getting an electrician in to trouble shoot the extremely high usage. If he has storage heaters it wouldn't make sense that his daytime usage is so high, unless the swimming pool heater is continually on.
Also, need to trace all the lives as to where they go and what they are powering. There must be something that is continually pulling electricity here that needs to be switched off as his use is prohibitively high.
The cost of a decent electrician will be worth it considering hes forking out 36 grand a year currently on electricity if you do nothing.
Get that complaint in to opus ASAP! You need to switch him back to a domestic supply ASAP. But with such high usages, some domestic suppliers may suspect he is running a business. So you need to address the usage issue too.0 -
@bravo93 At the end of the day you and your granddad may well thank Opus/the broker for causing you to look into the issues.
Does your granddad use the swimming pool ? Why is it even metered?
Have you any Bulb bills ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Will get an electrician out in the week to do a trace test and see what the hell is going on.
