the issue here is not the spam or email - its that you went 9 months without chasing them. In other words you thought they had forgotten about it and you thought they had written it off and you could save yourself some money by not paying. This is how it comes across. I concur with everyone else - you have to move on, this is a losing battle. Its your fault not theirs

Wow. Where do people come up silly accusations like this.

Clearly it is I who forgot, can’t deny that. I often fire and forget, so by assuming they’d reply I didn’t set a reminder to chase up and then i totally forgot about it. Hence having an issue with no reminders being sent. Your accusation is baseless and ridiculous and doesn’t help my query.

I was hoping some advice given would be seek a solicitor or something but based all replies sounds like I don’t have a defence. That’s assuming all the repliers are experienced in this matter, not all seem to be.

I’ll try contacting a solicitor direct with the query to make sure I’m dealing with an expert in the matter but thanks all for replying anyway, I don’t think I’ll get any positive support here so unsubscribing.

    Thanks

So in essence you came here looking to be told a specific answer (that Welsh Water are big meanies and have broken blah blah blah law) and you should speak to a solicitor.

When you were not given the answer you wanted to hear you decided we don't know what we're talking about so you're going to speak to a solicitor anyway.

It does rather beg the question of what the point of this thread was if you were going to go to a solicitor regardless of what people told you.

Contacting a solicitor to argue the toss over a mistake you made, which the firm are correctly reporting to the CRAs is a waste of time and money, it will not get changed by threatening legal action

I don’t think I’ll get any positive support here so unsubscribing.

Leaving the post because you were given the correct advice, which happens to mean you didn't get told what you wanted to hear is pointless, you have been given the correct advice already

Ah mate… just give it up.
You’re in the wrong. Your credit history is accurate. Accept it. Move on.
Have a direct debit set up for your bills in the future and all of this could be avoided.
I don’t think I can setup a direct debit without having information like a bill or account number or anything? As stated I just bought the property so it was not linked to me when I emailed them to give them my details.

Its quite a serious matter for me and not something to just accept. I can’t get a mortgage because I was not sent a bill to pay £70 Welsh water. I’m not prepared to just accept that situation it’s crazy.
My dad recently passed away - and so informed Welsh Water of the fact by telephone, and they closed down his account and sent his final bill to the estate executor.

Then while on the phone, we opened a new account for me, in my name, set up electronic billing, created a direct debit, and was given the choice of 6 monthly or monthly payments. It was all completed in a matter of minutes, and without any issue. Very, very straightforward. So yes, you can set up a new account on the phone, put a direct debit in place instantly, as a 'new person' so I'm not sure why it wouldn't have been the same for you.
