Anti Virus Software

I am looking for an anti virus software for my laptop. I currently use McAfee LiveSafe Premium Plus. To renew for a year they want £87.99, is this what I should expect?
I am unsure of what the best value-for-money deals are out there? I am a student, are there any deals for students?
I have also seen some free software, are they any any good?
I would really appreciate if anyone could advise me or provide suggestions on this.

I use Bitdefender. There are some free trials around if you google.
After the trial runs out try PC PRO Software Store - Bitdefender Family Pack 2021 [15-Device, 2-YR] - 80% off RRPLearn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning. Albert Einstein0 -
If it's Windows 10 you don't need any additional virus software. Window's Defender will be enough.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

+1 for Windows defender. Maybe Malwarebytes (free) as well. Mcafee is not good value even at a quarter the price quoted1
