    You get some oddities with card providers, but it ranges from 6-24 months before they will allow you to apply again, depending on the provider.

    Some banks seem to keep a permanent record, where as others are more flexible. For instance when I was 18-19 I had a Amex card and a Halifax credit card, I defaulted on both (although cleared all in full within a few months). Now in my mid thirties Halifax happily gave me a mortgage and indeed could not care less about stuff 15+ years ago. It appears that Amex will however never give me a card again due to that historic default (I asked on the phone after being declined), despite at the point of application being an ideal candidate, six figure salary, large monthly surplus etc.

    Well I've got 2 Barclaycards so it's rubbish that you can't successfully apply for a Barclaycard if you've already got one!
    I can concur with what the OP has said, I closed my Barclaycard a few years ago and if I ever do a pre-application it tells me that I have a 0% chance of acceptance. This is despite my credit report being excellent and me getting a 90-100% chance of acceptance from other providers.

    Closing an account and having no account with them is of course a different scenario to your own, where you had one card and then applied for another.

    I only know about the 6 month before reapplying criteria internally. I cannot find anywhere that stipulates the 6 month waiting period on the Barclaycard website. The only thing I can find was an article that discussed the issue by a third party 5 years ago.

    I hadn’t realised you actually did a full application for a Barclaycard that got declined. This is likely to mean you now won’t be able to reapply again for a further 3 months;
