im a nursery nurse(i know im always saying this lol)and several years ago there was a small boy called dominic i was his named carer in nursery and i called him doms(as one day he was particularly upset and id heard his mum call it him)the officer in charge was quite cross and said i was to refer to him as dominic in future as per nursery policy! so i adhered......before the week was out i was called into the office and dominics mum was there...........and she specifically told me in front of the OIC that I was to continue to call him Doms as that had settled him and he felt more "himself" sometimes you have to speak up for your child regardless of the pettiness,it was in one of my earlier positions and certainly nowadays id clearly state my reason for using a pet name but u live and learn ...........

update - parents evening went well. they call her charlotte because 'they do' and didnt realise we wanted her called charlie even though i put it on the form. but shes a bright and extremely polite little girl and does things there that she never does at home, including eating all her food and asking for more and weeing on the toilet!
regards the birthday thing, her name is up on the board so i assume the newsleter was an oversight so we didnt mention it.There's someone in my head, but it's not me0
