Money Moral Dilemma: Should I challenge my neighbours over damage to my car?

Still amazes me how few people have these or any other form of CCTV.CPPLUS26 said:Any Video doorbells close by?
Our street is very well to-do, lots of very fancy cars, yet I'm the only one with any form of CCTV (Blink camera).
I know this because the police heard I had one and said I was the only one in the entire street (and I was able to provide them with footage of a van they were after).
They're so cheap and easy to set up, you'd think everyone would have one.0 -
Sorry to say that as an official MSE article this just seems to be clickbait when the story has more holes in it than a string vestRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1

Doesn't have to be a challenge. The person responsible might not even have noticed. Bring it up in a conversation and ask them to check the car you think is responsible... Put the ball in their court but don't corner them for a response. End of the day it's a scratch on a car..0

This happened to me someone very kindly reversed into my front end causing damage to my bumper. No one owned up no one saw what happened no one has cctv. Cost me £160 to have repaired at a body workshop much cheaper than a replacement bumper but very inconvenient plus I’m out of pocket. The only positive I can take from it is no one was hurt0

True although this one being an official MSE I would have expected somewhat better when there is no OP to actually give the info so the replies are all pretty pointlessAdrianC said:

No way in hell. You want a nice mutual ignore-each-other relationship with your neighbours. Trying to claw back a couple of hundred quid for repairs is not going to compensate you for turning your neighbour into an enemy. Which is what will happen, whether they have anything to do with it or not.0

Observed my car move, from inside house, when neighbour reversed (he has sensors) then drove off. Politely, confronted him on his return (he looked at car and shrugged/ no apparent W damage) however, he had cracked light cluster which resulted in £280 bill (only became obvious a week or so later). He has since become abusive / aggressive as didn’t like being taken to task.
I then found out that he wrote off a neighbours car and did a runner because he had consumed alcohol. He was given community service but laughed it off.
moral of the story is that some individuals do not give a damn.0 -
Haha, I love this.citizen_gav said:You want a nice mutual ignore-each-other relationship with your neighbours.
At best, a grudging 'hello' in the passing.0 -
By the looks of things, without proof you're stuck, unless your neighbour who could have witnessed what happened volunteers the information. Unfortunately, incidents such as yours seem to be all too common and you're not alone being on the receiving end. What's sad is that the culprit wasn't honest enough to get out of his/her car, knock on your door and own up.0
