How do I read the EDF Meter?

Learn how to read your actual meters not the toy IHD unit and check the readings against your actual bills to ensure all is correct. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0

The Chameleon toy, as you put it, will show actual meter readings in the correct units.Hasbeen said:Learn how to read your actual meters not the toy IHD unit and check the readings against your actual bills to ensure all is correct.

Interesting, so no need to actually now advise people to check their smart meters. For actual readings as the IHD is accurate and gives readings required. Thank you for clarification.[Deleted User] said:

Easier said than done unfortunately. Our latest meter defaults to KwH. I've no idea how or even IF we could read it any other way. Which is why we are currently disputing a ridiculously large final bill from British Gas, who have calculated our KwH as 'Units'...Gerry1 said:Whatever you do, don't send a gas reading that's shown in kWh ! Only send a one shown in m3, otherwise you'll be hit with a massive bill and an increased DD amount.Once it's gone, it's gone - so remember...

Electricity meters are always in kWhs, and gas meters always show volume (cubic feet or cubic metres). Some In House Displays show gas usage in kWhs using a proxy calorific value but this index reading should never be given to a supplier.MsSupertech said:

Some meters do it as well unfortunately, as seems to be the case here.[Deleted User] said:Some In House Displays show gas usage in kWhs using a proxy calorific value but this index reading should never be given to a supplier.

It is our METER that defaults to reading in KwH. Our IHD no longer works.[Deleted User] said:

Surely the submitted meter readings ought to have been rejected by "the industry" - after all, they were over eleven times the expected figure!0 -
If it is a Liberty G4, I accept that it shows both a notional kWh figure (with the word HAN - Home Area Network) and an index reading in M3s for volume. If you are not seeing the M3 index reading, then the meter is faulty and it should be replaced. You should not be giving the supplier a kWh reading for gas as they have no way of accurately calculating the volume of gas used. The meter uses a fixed proxy calorific value and billing uses an average actual calorific value.MsSupertech said:[Deleted User] said:MsSupertech

Several forumites have had this problem. It's unforgivable that gas meters can default to showing kWh figures: if this facility is provided, it should be available only on request. Just another predictable failure of the smart meter fiasco.0
