Purchase of Ex LA flat - Survey?

Hi
In the process of purchasing an ex LA flat in a block of 6.
Full steam ahead, mortgage offer done and valuation being completed tomorrow.
My question is do I need a survey done? Quite prepared to do so, but have been reading that it may be a bit pointless considering it's a flat and won't be able to go anywhere apart from the actual flat and communal areas?
We already plan to do a complete re-wire as soon as we move in, and upgrade to a combi boiler within the first year.
I'm of the understanding that the solicitors will be given a management pack detailing works done in recent years and possible upcoming works to the building(s) (I know most major work ie roof/windows etc, has already been completed as I know a few of the residents already on the estate).
Would I just be wasting £400+?
Many Thanks 😊

If the block looks well maintained and you feel the rest of the flat is OK then go ahead - a survey might pick up one or two issues you may not have noticed perhaps, but essentially it will tell you to get the electrics/plumbling checked and tell you that there may be asbestos (get it checked) or damp (get it checked). So if you have any concerns then just get those points checked by appropriate trades. The LA are responsible for the upkeep of the building and hopefully they do that. If the survey picked anything up you wouldn't be able to do anything about it - just that you could report it to the LA, or decide to pull of of the purchase.0
