Mortgage broker saying I have to prove insurances in place-is this right

Hi, so I used a broker for my mortgage. Following my mortgage offer, I repeatedly got calls from someone in their office saying they needed to have a meeting with me to discuss insurances. I declined this meeting as I am the sort of person who prefers to search the market myself, choose my own insurances etc and so I have set up the insurances I want.
My solicitor has now requested the draw down of my mortgage funds as we are completing soon and also has the evidence of my buildings insurance.
The mortgage broker company (presumably having notification that the mortgage funds have been requested by my solicitor-could be wrong?) are now saying I have to send them proof I have taken insurances out and if I can't I must have a meeting with them for compliance reasons.
Is this right? I have provided evidence of the building insurance needed for my solicitor and my other insurances I have chosen and sorted myself but these insurances e.g. life insurance I know are optional.
I don't want to be arrogant but do I ignore this request or send them my insurance policies to keep them happy?

My solicitor has sent my buildings insurance policy to my mortgage lender.
It is the mortgage broker who is asking me to send them my policies-they don't just want buildings insurance, they want everything-life insurance, income protection etc0 -
I had a similar experience with L&C as my broker. They implied on a phone call that I was required to get income protection insurance. I later discovered it wasn't actually necessary.
Doesn't sound quite as bad as your situation, and maybe your circumstances are a little different, but I would be highly dubious.
Ask them to provide evidence that the insurance is required by the mortgage lender.0 -
I'd be a bit inclined to email them and say that you solicitor has already provided the information direct to the lender, and if necessary as k your solicitor to e-mail the broker to state tht they have had sight of the insurance documents and can confirm that insurance is in place and has been sent to the lender.
I can't see any reason the broken would need to see it expect to be able to confirm to the lender, however, lenders are often bad at communication so I would not rule out the possibility of them having asked the broker for it despite having already had it from your solicitor! All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
The lender doesn't care whether you have life insurance or income protection. The broker will, because they get commission from flogging it to you...3

The latest development with this one....
They have sent me quotes for home insurance even though I have told them I have this in place and it has been sent to my solicitor (it is also double the cost of the one I have already set up and for less cover)
They have now also emailed me a disclaimer with life insurance and income protection quotes saying declined next to them and I have to sign these apparently to say I have declined them. However, they don't know my smoking status etc. so not sure how they could generate a valid quote for these insurances for me to decline without any input from me during the quotation process. I don't want to sign a disclaimer saying I have rejected protection quotes when I have had no input with these.
After a really good experience with them for the mortgage, I am disappointed with their insurances side.
I am currently in the process of exchanging/completing this week and this has just added extra stress and confusion, as they are making me feel like my house purchase won't go through unless I send this stuff back.0 -
