Work has been crazy but thought I'd do write a quick update here. Credit card payments for this month has been more than usual. I paid a total of £900 instead of my usual £600. A portion of the reservation refund (sob) went to the overpayment. I have a direct debit setup for the new balance transfer and once everything has gone through for my first payment, I will adjust between the two credit cards accordingly. I did have the 1.25% transfer fee to consider but still slightly lower than the my previous monthly interest.

There may have been spending on the CC1 but that will be paid off at the end of the month. I still like the idea of utilising the credit card for hotel reservations, etc, just in case I need a refund. I guess the reason I’m highlighting that here so that there is an audience for my accountability. I will pay it back!

Spending wise, I have managed three NSDs so far this week. Still trying to cut back on my transport costs and with the weekend being a high spend day this month. Work being super exhausting these days keeps me at home on my days off anyway (and no takeaways either) so I’m still pleased about that.

So for this month, debt brings me to a total of just below £9,000! This is probably the first time I reached this amount as for years I have just been yo-yoing between £12,000-13,000.

    CC1: £600 paid - Current balance:  £ 346

    CC2 (0% balance transfer): £300 paid - Current balance: £8610

    Congratulations on getting under 9k!
1.25% fee doesn't sound too bad, it must be a lot less than the interest you would pay over several months.
    01.12.2020 - CC £16,839 / Loan £18,820 / EF £0
    03.07.2023 - CC (0%) £9,859 / Loan £0 / Savings £10,110

Thank you everyone! I never thought I’d return to this amount to be honest. The last time I was at this amount, I was barely managing and got another limit increase. I’ve obviously been even terrible ever since. I'm never organised with this money, truth be told, but MSE and you lovely advisors made me see the light. :)

Enough sob here’s a few updates from me.

    • Looks like the laptop brand hasn't made any big announcement on a new line as rumoured after all. So I'm keeping my laptop (and looking at options) until then. Or until it dies on me.

    • No luck on reselling any items although they are still listed. Still waiting on a proper few days off so I can declutter and find some more preloved.
    • I was meant to review gym options this month. I need to pull my weight for health reasons, literally. I was just want to be extra sure that I can make the most of the monthly commitment. I got nonchalant the last time and ended up paying £30 for 1-2 sessions a month. Someone suggested the couch to 5k challenge on the small things DFW thread this week, so I might try that one to check how far I can commit before I start adding costs with a gym subscription.
    • I have overtime money coming in on Friday. Not sure where to allocate these funds just yet - it’s definitely between the two credit cards, savings or my wants funds. Got a bit greedy and booked another shift on Sunday too.

The perfectionist/overthinker/optimistic part of me is hoping that I could wind the debt down in one attempt. I’ll keep posting - hopefully more wins that downs. :)

My weekly horoscope today did say, “You may feel pressure to prove yourself by taking on extra work or doing favours that cut into your weekend” and warned me about sacrificing self-care, etc. But guess what, I already agreed to a shift before I got to that part. Work has been bone tiring recently but I wasn’t able to pass up a weekend shift. It’s rare for a Sunday overtime to come up , I got greedy so I took it. There will be more self-care for me next week, I swear.

That said, half of my overtime money from the bank holiday went to CC1, the other half went to savings. Have a good weekend!

There's also mitigatng circumstances though in that the extra money earned will also remove some financial pressure. I have an extra weekday shift coming up - I'll appreciate it come pay day 😊
