1700mm bath too big for 1650mm space

Have got a plumber to install a new bathroom for me in a few weeks time, been looking round for new suites this weekend and the wall to wall space in the bathroom is 1650mm and the baths I've seen are all either a 1600 or 1700mm standard size.
Can I buy a 1700 bath and the plumber then chases grooves in the plaster and brickwork to accommodate?
If this can be done then can the same be done but trimming the bath panel down to size (which will have to be done anyway as there is a square wooden cover for the waste bath water to butt against)
TIA

Chasing 2.5 cms at each end might possibly work if the walls are thick enough. You would want a bath where the taps are in the middle, not at the end.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

There are plenty of 1650 baths around, by the way.

It sounds, on the face of it, feasible but how are you going to get the bath into the bathroom if the wall-to-wall dimension is less than the size of the bath?

A similar thread - Trimming bath edges
However, I don't understand the bit "square wooden cover for the waste bath water to butt against". Normally waste pipes are well below the edges.

You can build your own bath panel pretty easily.

The waste pipe is enclosed in a wooden box running from the bath beneath the sink and then toilet. It's positioned at the bottom left hand corner of the bath towards the tap end as you look at the bath panel front on.

That is a very good question.

Have had a quick look at the prices of these and are about 3 or 4 times the price I want to spend on a bath as am working to a budget so don't want to go down this route unless I have to

A few 1650mm size here. Don’t seem too pricey.
    I paid £190 for a 1685mm including bath panel from B&Q.

I hear you, but heavily cutting into the walls and making good will not be cheap either. The bath would presumably be carried into position diagonally, and enough of the wall would have to be removed to swing it down into position.

Or cutting down a 1700 bath, perhaps, as someone else said?
