Why do Lloyds Bank have almost identical Current Account and Credit Card design/colour?

This has on several occasions led to me using my Lloyds credit card when I meant to use my Lloyds debit card. Worst time was when I tried to make a £5000 debit card faster payment and a hold up made me realise just in time that I was about to make a £5000 credit card payment into a savings account.

I now don’t keep the debit card in my wallet although I would like to use it and have written Credit Card in permanent marker on the credit card.

Any other banks have credit and debit cards that look so similar.

I will mention it to Lloyds and no doubt be met with an avalanche of indifference!

The Lloyds debit card is Visa and the credit card is MasterCard. That's how I tell the difference.
Be thankful you're not with first direct. Until recently both their debit and credit cards were Visa and it was very easy to get them mixed up.  They do have debit/credit printed in one corner but it's not in a very clear typeface so it's easy to miss. Until a few years ago they didn't even have that. The cards were almost indistinguishable and the credit card had nothing on it at all that indicated it was a credit card. I was often using the wrong card in those days.

Nationwide's Select Credit Card (now discontinued for new customers) is almost identical to their FlexPlus debit card. The only difference being the colour of the Nationwide logo on the cards.

Oh indeed, FirstDirect are probably the worst for this. I still have the debit/credit cards that are both Visa - used the wrong one again last night - try figuring them out in a badly lit pub garden after a couple of drinks.

Would be nice for all banks to have a choice of designs.

Have two Santander current accounts as get paid four weekly from employer. So transfer the difference between balance and DD due - plus a cushion into another bank account. The cards are the same that I have used the wrong card.

Now wrote bills on the card to account the DDs come from with a Sharpie

We have the same thing, or at least hubby does, the FD debit and credit cards are almost identical except the wording and hubby has made the mistake a few times.

Debit card = black (Club Lloyds). Credit card =green.
Is their non Club Lloyds debit card a different colour?

Yes but the ‘black’ club Lloyds debit card has a green halo and they are all the same design with a black horse so unless they were side by side I wouldn’t know the difference. Of course credit card is written on the cc but when I’m out and about or even at home sometimes it wouldn’t register with me. I may have some cognitive deficit but I see it as the banks role to make cards as easy to use for their intended purpose as possible! By having different designs, maybe a red donkey for the credit card with a yellow halo the problem several of us have could be alleviated.

If the differences on the cards (e.g. sort code & account number on debit card only) don't suffice, use the Sharpie method - i.e. write a big D on your debit card with a non-erasable pen, and a C on your credit card.

FD are way too advanced to let you get away with that - both cards are black, and the silver embossing on the card numbers wear off after a couple of months.

I think the Club Lloyds debit card is meant to be a very, very dark green. The Classic account (i.e. non Club Lloyds) debit card is much lighter and it is a similar shade green to the credit card.
