Yes, you can refuse UNLESS your supplier has deemed your meters to be end-of-life. In such circumstances, the supplier can fit smart meters,

In such circumstances, the supplier can fit smart meters,Not quite.Although BEIS and Ofgem have reneged on all the repeated undertakings given to Parliamwnt that smart meters would not be mandatory, Ofgem now state that energy companies are required to install a smart meter wherever a meter is replaced or where a meter is installed for the first time, for instance in new premises, unless there is a good reason not to.So @pink_boots can refuse a smart meter if E.On just want to tick a box, and only need to think of a good reason if the meter is end of life !0 -
It is a condition of many tariffs the you must have a smart meter fitted within X months. In the conditions for the cheaper fixed tariff is a stipulation that you will revert to the more expensive standard tariff if one is not fitted within X months.

Lots of discussions on the pros / cons on the Energy Forum. Main one appears to be Government control of meter to switch power off.
You can refuse. But if they want to tick another one off? they will replace anyway.
Why do you want to refuse? Times, Technology moves on.
Hopefully not tin foil superstitious? Like going from feather pens to Biros. LOL
But worth an educated discussion. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -

But worth an educated discussion.Your 'educated discussion' and LOL at the OP begins with a poor analogy. We didn't go from feather pens to biros, but neither aided surveillance and data harvesting, so it's irrelevant.Tin foil? Ask those who already live under a social credits system whether it's based on 'superstition' or data collection.

Apologise for my/any mistake, not a pen expert. But have checked and feather pens appear to be before Biro pens.
So we did go from one to another over a period of time.
My LOL was meant to be light hearted and the educated discussion was on the Pros and cons of smart meters.
Unsure about people living under a social credit system though. I looked it up and it appears to be a policy implemented under the Chinese government? Social Credit System - Wikipedia So sorry a bit confused on that part.
Pen Timeline
2000 BC: Egyptian reed pen.
600 AD: Quill / Feather pen
1822: Steel point pen.
1827: Fountain pen.
1888: Ballpoint pen. Biro / Rollerball
But this reply and also your own does not give the OP any further advice to the OPs post. So do you have any advice for OP.
Perhaps as part of an educated discussion type reply you can give the OP and others here your views on some peoples superstition and data harvesting regarding Smart meters?

Perhaps as part of an educated discussion type reply you can give the OP and others here your views on some peoples superstition and data harvesting regarding Smart meters?I replied to you, not the OP. Your suggestion the OP might hold 'tin foil' superstitious views didn't seem to me particularly friendly or helpful, however light hearted you thought you were being. Of course, I could be wrong. My reply detailed an example why concern about data gathering and surveillance is rational, so I don't need to elaborate.
