Some main dealers actually 'price match' services. I know for an Audi they do this and was told they cannot discount the service plan but when a service was due send them a copy of the service quote received from a third party (provided they use genuine parts etc) and they will match it.

Much easier to service it yourself. Do it when it's most convenient.
`are you going to reimburse those that follow your advice when they have a PCP with a requirement for service at a  dealer as per schedule?  I won't hold my breath.

It's got nothing to do with me if people want to sign strange money wasting contracts. It's their problem for signing it.

I would be surprised if Audi actually manufacture any of their own service parts.

If someone signs a contract saying they will have it serviced at a main dealer they can't blame me if they don't! I was always a bit surprised that they were allowed to put that clause in given that the EU stopped manufacturers insisting that cars were serviced by main dealers. If you want to sign the contract though you can't then claim off Fred on MSE if you then don't comply.

He was replying to your "advice" of - Much easier to service it yourself. Do it when it's most convenient.

But good to hear you've got your defence line ready of "Its gothing to do with me" when it all ends in tears.

Like that woman who came on here for help who got a driveway mobile mechanic in after you were "advising" people it was the best option as you could watch what they were doing and ensure you got your moneys worth?   Didnt the bloke leg it when he'd screwed it up saying "just nipping off to get parts luv" then didnt come back, leaving her to - quite literally - pick up the pieces?  Fortunately she found a good local mechanic to sort the mess out.

Its got nothing to do with me.

The simple answer to that, of course, is that they are VERY different situations.

    1. Manufacturer specifies maintenance for warranty purposes.
    2. Owner of car specifies maintenance of their property.

BTW, Fred... DIY won't wash for block-exemption, either. Still needs to be a VAT-reg'd garage...

The last new car I bought is now over 6 years old. It was ordered through a broker on the internet. No main dealer involvement. Picked it up at the main dealer. It's not had anything to do with the main dealer since. I have serviced it myself with genuine parts. Genuine as in the same as the manufacturer use eg Mann filters. I haven't paid extra for the main dealer to put it in a box with the manufacturers name on it. It has had one repair with an easily available part available from many sources. Makes you wonder what the purpose of a main dealer is.
Selling new cars? Just order them online.
Repairing new cars? Nobody recommends main dealers for repairing old ones!
Servicing new cars? Nobody recommends main dealers for servicing old ones!
Servicing and repairing new cars is infinitely easier than repairing old ones. Maybe just there to fix manufacturing !!!!!! ups like software !!!!!! ups?
A lot of main dealers have parts shops on eBay so it is normally cheaper to order from eBay and have them delivered than to actually go to your local main dealer. Might as well just order parts online from the manufacturer.
Main dealers seem a bit pointless to me. Tesla agree. Service plans just an attempt to keep people going there.

Tesla don't want to sub contract their profits.

You still aren't considering those that are on PCP/leases that are contracted to use main dealers for servicing or have to pay a penalty.  You do this consistently and your posts should come with a h/wealth warning.  If you have no contractual reason to use a main dealer, and have the expertise, then sure, you can save money by doing the work yourself.  I would cause more damage than harm, knowing your own limitations is one of the most moneysaving things there is when dealing with expensive items.  You fail to grasp that not everyone can service their own car just by following a few youtube videos.
