EZY flight cancelled - options?

Options
Easyjet have cancelled our flight for 3rd June and are offering a free flight change.
We've not looked into it too deeply, but has anyone with a similar experience have any knowledge ... is 'for free' just the flight change fees (which are free anyway at the moment) or can we chose *any* flight on the same route without excess charge?
Secondly, the return flight is not (yet) cancelled - will we be able to swap that 'for free' too?

  • I know it's not the same airline, but Ryanair cancelled my flights on the 3rd (EMA to EGC) last night, and I changed them to a Liverpool departure on the 1st this morning without a problem. Process was a lot easier than I expected.  You'll need to look at the terms and conditions on the Easyjet site to see whether you have to pay if your chosen dates are more expensive than the ones you had booked. The website seems to confirm that "Only if the new fare is higher will you be asked to pay the difference.*"but, as they've cancelled, rather than you requesting a change, maybe their terms are different for that situation? I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Ryanair's behaviour, and, in their cancellation email they said "We are allowing customers to change their cancelled flight to another date or time on the original route or to any other route within our network. You can move your flight to any date within 14 days before or after your cancelled flight. There are no flight change fees and you do not have to pay any fare difference."
As for your return flight, is their website still showing that you can book for it? I don't know how Easyjet use their planes, but Ryanair seem to use the plane that's just arrived to go back to the start point. If Easyjet do the same, I would have thought the return flight would also be cancelled....

    BUMP - sorry

Our return has now been cancelled and just looking, it seems that any change is free.
Tried to change to the most expensive flight I could see on the same route and it says "free change"
Think we will try for later in the year when we hope the chaos will have died down.

It’s fantastic as you can literally book any flight to the same location- if not country - with no uplift in cost
