Terrible Internet from day 1.

Options
Good evening! I moved into a house 9
months ago & we were told that we could only use one company for the internet. We have had issues from day one including not having proper internet (4G box) for 2/3 months. Then when the fibre was finally sorted it’s been terrible. Sometimes we go hours without having internet access & when we do it drops out when browsing, gaming etc. It’s just been shocking, I think they once told me they owned the fibre lines or something into the house so they are the only company we can get internet through? Is this correct, if not how do I go about trying to change supplier because if I go on Sky/BT/TalkTalk’s websites they say they can’t find the address or don’t supply it. So I’m in a bit of a pickle. I don’t want to stay with this company but surely I should have some sort of choice because it’s very expensive as well! I don’t mind not having ‘fibre’ I just want good internet at reasonable speeds! Thank you in advance.

Is it a new build property?

If it's a new build it's very likely you will be tied into one provider and openreach may not even have cabled the area which would explain why other providers are unable to find you.
Who's the provider and have you considered mobile broadband?

There are many new build developments where the builder basically installs their own fibre network and don’t allow other company’s ( like Openreach or Virgin ) on to the site, so you have a choice of the ISP the builder is connected to, or  mobile, then there other developers that do a sweetheart deal with company’s like OFNL , where there is a choice but not necessarily of the ISP brands you may recognise, and the ISPs’ available  are generally part of the same group anyway, again the choice is of those linked ISP or mobile.
When the site is finished and the local council becomes responsible for the road  and footpaths ( they adopt them ) then other company’s could dig up the paths etc and install their own network, but the economics may not stack up, so they don’t bother.....basically for the time being you are stuck with what you have or consider mobile broadband
