    The OP's family member may be able to buy the car and then could sell it to the OP.

    The family member doesn't want to buy it the OP does and that's the reason they posted. The link you posted suggests that motability customers can no longer purchase their vehicle at the end of their lease.

    If you have a read of the thread I linked to this is being discussed with some contributors saying this is still possible, even though the Motability website indicates otherwise.

    Surely the family member who wants the car can give the Motability customer the cash to buy it and then transfer ownership afterwards.

    Owner phoned today, they've to phone back closer to lease end, answer some questions, and Motability will tell them how much they want for it. 
     It is still possible.
