Airline-daylight robbery for name change?

yesIs a pint of milk, loaf bread of standardised ? No, so why should this charge be?
If the £125 was just for name change, then yes it would be considered extremely high, but it wasn't !
Expensive mistake ! Learn from it and type more carefully next time.0 -
yes, as much as they like (as at present)It's not a matter of taking responsibility - it's about the scale of the charge!!!
I accept that it was my fault; I also accept that a charge should be made. The point is that the charge is neither standardised nor limited.
The charge is standardised, it is £30 + the additional cost for the equivalent ticket on the day. It is inevitable that a ticket bought on the day of purchase is going to cost a lot more.
It is to stop people reselling tickets.Gone ... or have I?0 -
It does seem to be a high charge, but how much of a mistake did you make.
Care to elaborate.0 -

Loaf bread of? Pot calling the kettle? Or should that be "calling kettle the pot?
And yes, it was just for the name change. (or the change name)0 -
yesWell done, you fell right into the trap !!! Shame you didn't read your own mistakes prior to submitting the booking !!! Would have saved you £125.
NO it wasn't just for the name change and you know it wasn't as you told us in your very first post !!!
"£30 for the name change (admin fee - fair enough) plus the difference between the fare you originally paid and the cost of the flight on that day"
And that's pretty standard amongst lo-cost carriers !
Edit and i did mean lo-!!!!!0 -

I actually typed the wrong surname on the outward booking. Stupid, idiotic, careless etc.
As I've said, I accept the mistake, accept that there should be a charge AND that airlines make the charge in order to make sure that tickets are not easily resold; the party booking was otherwise correct, as was the return booking.
The point I'm trying to make is that if the airline charges in this way the sky's the limit on the amount you could be made to pay - a simple error could be very expensive, though some of those who've replied would never make such an error, of course.0 -

So what's your point? If it is standard should it be?0 -
But isn't the second charge totally determined by the first name-change charge? Did the airline have to impose the second charge because the OP entered the name wrongly? If so, then the full amount was for the name-change.0

noWhy should the airline be allowed to charge the difference between 2 tickets for a spelling mistake? it's still the same person flying on the same plane, in the same seat, on the same day. If they took the original ticket & destroyed it it can't be resold can it? This smells very cod like.Winnings

Normally they let you change something like up to three letters FOC in my experience, however, if it is more than that, they ask for the difference in fare to prevent people from reselling non-refundable tickets if they decide not to travel.
There is also a security concern, more countries - e.g. the USA - levy heavy fines on the airlines if the names on passports are not the same as the names on the flight manifest - the US screen people before they arrive in the country - and I'm sure the airlines are keen to avoid paying those fines! I hear that the fines are several thousand dollars per passenger.0
