Gas meter registered at wrong postcode
Does anyone have any advise on who to contact at EON to get the postcode corrected against my Gas meter on the national meter database. My new supplier is saying it's wrong but no-one at EON who are my current supplier seems to understand what I am asking.
Thanks

You're right, your current supplier is the ones that need to update any information on the national database, I'm not sure who you've spoken to, but most advisors can get this updated, or request it.
I know there isn't any real call waits at the moment, but you can use Live Chat, or pop your correct information on a DM or PM on Social Media and we'll get it sorted out.
Thanks

Two options. One, wait for E.oN to fix it or, two, email your chosen supplier with the meter registration number; meter serial number and address (including the incorrect postcode) and ask them to takeover your supply. Once the supply has transferred ask your new supplier to update the database. This can take a few weeks but only your present supplier can do it.LBad said:Hi,

Thanks Helena. I have just sent you a message with my details. Unfortunately the live chat told me to call the customer service line who couldn't help me when I called yesterday

Thanks but my new supplier are telling me it needs to be corrected before they can take it over which makes little sense as I have moved suppliers twice since I moved here without the same issue. Just want this sorted 😀[Deleted User] said:

I used to be a meter reader. Many is the time I've seen two meters in the same building with differing addresses. Often it stems from the olden days when gas and electric always came from different suppliers.

I live in a new build it's less than 3 years old.Verdigris said:I used to be a meter reader. Many is the time I've seen two meters in the same building with differing addresses. Often it stems from the olden days when gas and electric always came from different suppliers.
Often that is because the developers don't know the correct address when services are ordered. The roads haven't been named and the Royal Mail haven't allocated the postcodes. Sometimes properties are still identified by the developers plot numbers, which have long been abandoned and forgotten. And don't get me started on builders that just seem to chuck all the meters up in the air and bung them in the nearest house...

Octopus was very happy to takeover my electricity supply with an incorrect postcode on my new build 3 years ago. The National Database was updated 2 weeks after the transfer of supply. To facilitate the switch, I contacted customer services and all they required was a photograph of the meter with the serial number so that they could satisfy themselves that they were no danger of falling into an erroneous transfer situation.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. Xoserve.com are the company that hold your gas meter details and address etc but they can’t change anything unless a formal request emanates from your present supplier, which I assume is still EON. Obviously the operator at EON wasn’t aware of this simple process
This from Xoserves website:
“I have been informed by my new chosen Supplier that they are unable to take ownership of my gas supply because Xoserve holds incorrect address details.
Solution
Xoserve is unable to update any details on the request of consumers or Suppliers. All instructions to update data about your gas supply must come directly from the Gas Shipper on behalf of your Gas Supplier.
You will need to contact your current Supplier and ask them to liaise with the contracted Gas Shipper - asking the Shipper to submit an address amendment request to Xoserve.
The Shipper will need to submit the request via Xoserve's Contact Management Service (CMS).
When the details are processed and updated in our central register, the new supplier will be able to process your switch.”https://www.xoserve.com/switching-gas-supplier/#d
