The paid for version accepts Cash as a holding name. I would have expected the free one to do so as well. Not that I see any great point in analysing a portfolio with cash in it.
Why dont you ring the help line to get your subscription sorted? On the other hand since you think the whole system is terrible why do you want to?0 -

Build Your Own Stock Portfolio Tracker On Google Sheets - YouTube
I just copied this guys script in google spreadsheets and made adjustments to the portfolio he used. Can either copy him from YT vid or sign up to his patreon and get it there.
No need to update prices either does it automatically, though you will need to download an app in sheets if you want etf/fund prices. There is away to do it through yahoo but i couldn't get it to work properly. Maybe google finance will add them soon so it works without the app.1 -

What essentially they are is dummy portfolios only. They arent designed for managing investment accounts but rather to analyse and report the performance/make-up of a given set of investments. So for example a performance graph from trustnet simply provides the performance of a portfolio with funds allocated as they are at the current time. It wont give you the historical performance through the various changes you have made.
If you want software that will track and report on investments in multiple accounts over time in a similar way to one that tracks bank accounts you would probably have to pay for it. But as far as I know there is nothing on the market that does the job properly and integrates investment accounts with cash accounts completely satisfactorily. Possible options mentioned in the past are Gnucash and Quicken. However the latter is no longer sold in or for the UK.
The one system I know about that does almost all you could possibly want is MSMoney - extensive reporting, integration of bank accounts with investments, detailed tracking of multiple investment accounts, bulk upload of investment prices and bank account transactions etc etc. On the downside it is no longer supported or available from Microsft. On the upside it has worked for me since support stopped around 2009 despite the many changes to Windows since then. It did stop accepting new investments when the data file with 20 years of detailed investment and cash data exceeded 86M but it was then simple to start again from scratch - the old data was not lost. There are free versions of the final UK release to be found on the net.
