TalkTalk to charge me £200 to exit…

Hi
I am currently on a 24 month plan with Talktalk broadband, however the house I rent has recently been sold by the landlord and I have to move.
My new rental has OFNL installed and I cannot transfer TalkTalk over to my new address. They have said I will need to pay s £200 fee to exit the contract - can they do this? I feel I am being penilised through no fault of my own and have previously been a long-standing Ttalk customer, I simply don’t have £200 right now 😩
Thanks
Sarah.

Sarah.Yes is the short answer. Contract is to where you live. You're moving (not through choice I get that, but you're moving regardless) so you're "at fault" as it were for terminating it early. The fees are what you agreed to when you signed up.Many posts about this sort of thing on the forum. They all get the same answer.0 -
If you're in a rental on an AST you would be well advised not to sign up with an ISP that requires more than 30 days notice. You won't get the so-called "deals" and may have to pay a setup fee, but you'll avoid a 12 / 18 / 24 month commitment to purchase broadband at that address.

You may be able to transfer the remaining time of your two years to a new address - or put it on hold until you can use another TalkTalk connectionThat said - £200 seems excessiveHow long do you have remaining of your contract ?0

@Deleted_User, you cannot suspend TT accounts.
@SarahBuzz the early termination fee will apply as follows.

This is definitely a very sharp practice and left you in a heartbreaking situation but there's not a lot you have in terms of consumer rights in this situation I'm afraid. This one comes down very much to caveat emptor - You had the option of running a broadband availability check at any new address before agreeing to rent it.
Has the Landlord given you six months notice?0 -

There are 30 day notice ISPs available that would avoid early termination charges, but they are more expensive so the expert moneysavers don't use them.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
