Keter Sheds

I'm going to replace an old 5'x6' wooden shed that's all rotten and listing to one side and due to it's location, close up to the side of a large hedge, it would be handy if it was fairly low maintenance, also being able to construct it and then move it onto it's base would be desirable. With that in mind I was looking at some of the Keter plastic sheds. Has anyone here had any experience with these, are they pretty well made and water tight? Do they look a bit of an eyesore being plastic or do they blend in OK?

The one I had in mind is their Darwin 4x6 shed (grey). One thing I couldn't see on their site are accessories to go in their sheds such as shelving etc, and was wondering how you go about fitting shelves and hangers etc in a plastic shed.

I don't have any experience of their sheds but do have their large storage box.  It's solidly made and the colour is OK as far as I'm concerned.

My neighbour has one of these in grey with white trim.
I thought it looked really smart but she opens the door for the whole day as soon as the sun comes out. As she's not one to be in the garden at any time I can only assume that it gets exceptionally hot inside to the point where there's a problem. It has a small vent in the side at the top but this obviously doesn't do the job.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I was considering a Keter Manor Pent 6x4. After reading up on the pros and cons I think I’ll go with wood.
The storage boxes are a good idea though.
Plastic is durable and weather proof but a lot of sun may start to warp it. Also adding shelves, hanging things not so easy as mentioned.
Would get hot also. My electric chainsaw dumps oil when stored in a hot place so a plastic shed won’t help there.
  • I have a small upright one. A bit like a small wardrobe with shelves on one side & a large tall space on the other. That is fantastic. Fully waterproof & never warped in the sun. Still in great condition after about 5 years. Electric strimmer lives in there all year & has survived fine.

I also have a storage box with a top lid & doors at the front that open out. It’s still waterproof but has definitely suffered in the sun (south west facing garden). The top has warped a bit & i ended up unscrewing the brackets that hold the lid up cos they were what was causing the warping. It’s still in use & does the job but looks a little battered now. Electric lawnmower & other bits are all fine in there. The warped lid has actually added a decent amount of ventilation to it!

I have a Ketter plastic shed ,really great ,completely water tight ,has a strip in the top that lets light in so looks like it has actual lighting ,came complete with a few shelves but i had some steel racking which stands in the back and takes all my stuff ,i have been in this house just over 30 years and have had two wooden sheds plus the one that was left when we purchased the house and this one is the best.
No roof felt to fit /repair ,no wood stain to apply every year ,wash down with the garden hose ,job done ,would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I replaced my old wooden sheds with an 8  x 6 Keter shed last year. Took 3 of us to put it together and we then moved it to its final position. Had to give it a bit of a wobble to get it straight again after moving it and had no problems since. Never noticed if it gets warm or not, I open it and get the gardening gear out then put them back when finished and close it. It came with a couple of small shelves that click into place and I used 2 old freestanding shelving units from my old sheds. As I've had it less than a year I cannot comment on long term durability.

Do you have it in a spot that gets no sun?

Purely because UV and heat does degrade plastic over time.

I have one as well. Brilliant shed. Mostly double skinned so I have racks screwed to the walls, just make sure you only drill through one skin.  I painted the outside with masonry paint to suit the wife's mood.
