What small DFW things will you do this week 10/05/21?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation.  These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important 😀

    Hi May Marvelousos,

    Thanks for the starter CLF.

I don't want to go into masses of detail, I've done that elsewhere....but I have quietly slunk back into this Forum as I am facing likely Redundancy and am here to stay. Hope you are all ok. Long and short of it, we need to rein it in as times are changing at Dowd Towers.

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Seven:

    Checked online banking.

Alarm clock off at the wall during day time.

Turn off Wifi box when not using it.

Celebrate now being at the start of Seven Years Debt Free, as of 2 days ago.

Ate the crusts of bread in a sandwich. DW has been disposing of them.

Applying for a job that is really my 'thing' today.

Set my phone so it uses less power.

    Read meters.

Turn my home laptop off when I'm not using it.

Take packed lunch to work and do not spend my usual £3 in the canteen. Take advantage of free tea, fruit and snacks at work. Eat up smooth peanut butter from home even though I prefer crunchy.

Replaced battery in DW's Maglite Torch last night; every Maglite comes with a spare stored in a concealed compartment.

    Afternoon all :)
Thanks for starting the thread CLF :)
Ziggy, I have great nephews and nieces, and it makes me feel older than being a grandma :D  I think it is because of my mum's ancient and scary aunties when I was small. One in particular had blue hair and thought children should be seen and not heard. Also that little girls should not get dirty, though it was ok for my brothers for some reason :D
Ally, good to see you back. Sorry to hear about the possible redundancy, but great to hear that you have already found a job you like the sound of, to apply for.
Jadewest94 congrats on your win :)
    Few things today:
OH had to do the dog walk on his own this morning, as I tripped in the garden yesterday and hurt my foot :# Smothered it in ibuprofen gel and rested it a bit, not perfect, but ok.
Usual kitchen and bathroom clean up
    Checked banks
Gave DD some plants that one of her groups can plant in an old farm trough tomorrow (she teaches post 16 special needs kids) :)
Load of washing mostly dried on the line between rain
All food from home. Not a NSD though as I bought some plant pots from Poundstr*tcher ..... and paid the last payment on the conservatory :#
Fed strawberry troughs and baskets. Also the garlic.
Watered a few things that looked dry, even though we have had lots of rain over the last few days.

    Morning folks

Weird being in work. I was VERY tired last night! OH was in my bad books - I went to pack my lunch for today to discover that he'd eaten all the chicken that I'd prepped for lunch today! Both our portions!
    Today's small things look like:
:star: B/L/D from stores (I have the lunch that OH was supposed to eat yesterday and he'll have to make something else!
:star: Washing on line and OH is under strict instructions to bring it in after lunch as it's due to rain!
:star: Poss either walk or workout later? Feel so unfit and jeans very tight...
:star: Cast on blanket square (unless squishy post arrives ;) )

    Have a good one all

    Morning all :)
Missed out on dog walk again this morning due to my sore foot :#  It is getting better, just not up to a mile or two walking just yet. Dog seems ok - he was eyeing up the chairs with a view to jumping up on them yesterday. I put a stop to that as it is definitely not allowed (not worried about the chairs, just dog and his 4k back!).
Guy from the conservatory company messaged about the still unconnected electrics and the strip of plastering that needs doing. We will see if they sort it or I need to get someone else to do it. The electrician was from a different firm, but was brought in by the conservatory company. The plastering requirement was due to incorrect measurement on their part. But I am really happy with it apart from that. The house seems much warmer and lighter. Really want it sorted one way or another so that I can move the rest of the stuff that belongs there back into the conservatory. It is really only a couple of silly little jobs - and we could do the plaster work ourselves if need be, and ask my brother to do the electrics. I think the company ought to sort it out really though.
Anyway, I have made a batch of scones, a crumble with garden rhubarb and have a cake in the oven. I will need to freeze some of these items.
Have plans to make a veggie lasagne for dinner.
Might venture out to the garden centre to buy some compost, plus 3 pots of a specific size to fit a vintage wall planter that OH put up for me. Might co-opt OH to help carry the compost >:)  He isn't a lover of garden centres, whereas I could spend all day, plus a small fortune there, given the chance :D
Also need to phone re a medical appointment I have been putting off!

    Hi May Marvelousos,

Wow! What a busy day at Dowd Towers!

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Seven:

    Checked online banking.

Alarm clock off at the wall during day time.

Turn off Wifi box when not using it.

Called our Mobile provider. We have a phone each on a SIM only deal. My phone comes with 4GB of data for £23 a month. DW's comes with 1GB of data for £19 a month. I went on the online chat and asked if they could do it cheaper and got an instant 'YES'. Both phones with 120GB per month for £20 each! £2 less per month, but 235GB of data extra. I was dancing around with joy! I need to stay with this company because of signal availability in this area and the extra data will really help me out.

Turn my home laptop off when I'm not using it.

Had scrambled egg made from two just out of date eggs. Used the water test to see if they were still edible.

Amalgamated two of DW's Savings accounts for simplicity. DW made 56p in interest.

    Claimed 3p from TCB.

    Checked all Loyalty Points.

Checked whether we are on the best energy tariff. We are. No need to change supplier either.

Cancelled two charity Direct Debits. Kept two.

Reviewed every aspect of our spending.

Cancelled DW's auto-renewed car insurance for £247 per year and took out a new policy for £168 per year. Saved £79.

Increased by credit card limit by 33%. I have no debt and only use it for cashback on an interest-free basis, but this gives me peace of mind that there is available money there if TSHTF.

Celebrate our anniversary with a home-cooked meal.

And last but not least....DW has closed her business. Have advised HMRC and closed the bank account. The reasons behind it are complicated but it's the best thing right now.

    Watched DVDs we already own.

    Brisk, free local walk.

Remembered that I hadn't put in for the working from home tax allowance. That's £288 due back in Income Tax. https://blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2020/04/martin-lewis--working-from-home-due-to-coronavirus--claim-p6-wk-/

So that's a saving of £739.59 made today when you look at the savings over a year and that excludes savings made by shutting DW's business.
