Ok, best place to buy brown paper then? I've only seen it at the PO, does Wilkos sell it?“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

i'm another big fan of the 'brown paper packages tied up with string' thing! the other thing that can look very good is using old newspapers to make gift bags.
i couldn't find a great webiste for it, but this gives some instructions:

KittyKate wrote:You can get, quite cheaply, dark purple parcel paper (brown one side, purple the other.) It's biodegradable and looks gorgeous with hand drawn messages, stars and children's signatures in chunky silver pen, or silver gummed stars.
Where do you get this paper from? - I have never seen it.[size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

I've just found this tip on an American site, sure I just posted it but cant see it now!
One good example is using a tea towel to wrap a kitchen gadget for your favorite cook. Another idea is photocopying sheet music to wrap a CD for your favorite music lover. A few copies, even large ones, will usually end up costing less than a roll of wrapping paper or gift bags and tissue paper. Also, make copies of photos or other images that the recipient will like. Copy a photo of your kids to make great wrapping paper for grandparents. Be sure to make matching gift cards.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
My kids loving making their own wrapping paper using a old roll of lining paper we have ( lasts for ages!) we cut up a potato and make different shapes to stamp paint on the paper. They use it to wrap teachers pressies in at christmas. I get them to make some for the other gifts too - it is great for cold autumn afternoons. I do occasionally have to re-wrap the teachers gifts afterwards thoughSmoke free since 16th December 20120

I used plain brown paper last year and my family said I was very cheap!
But then they have no idea what budgeting means, let alone recycling.:wall:0 -
I have added my OP to the green and ethical board and have now added ideas for a "green" Xmas but also ideas for a less expensive one if anyone is intrested, I think the thread is called Recycled Xmas or smthg to that effect.0
