Complaint with an energy company
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but hopefully someone can advise.
Due to an admin error, our energy supplier sent a debt collector to our house. We weren't even in debt with them! I had no letters, just a visit.
Anyway, the guy was insisting that we owed money and was very vocal at our front door. Unfortunately, there were builders next door and they saw and heard everything. I was incredibly embarrassed.
I complained to the company by letter and got no response and then chased them a subsequent 2 times, still no answer. I then sought the details of the CEO and he apologised and offered me £20 compensation. I didn't respond straightaway but within a week, I got a text telling me that the complaint had been resolved and how would I mark them. No credit to my energy account either.
I took this to the Ombudsman and the energy company offered me £40 but I let the Ombudsman investigate. They have upheld my complaint and said that they need to pay £60 in compensation.
My question is: do you think this is a reasonable offer bearing in mind how expensive fuel bills are?
Thank you.

Your post appears to be it was about a complaint regarding embarrassment due to some builders next door.

Also, why not mention the energy company in question. Why are people so ambiguous. Surely a forum is here so you can also help others?1

Bully for you and by the way, which supplier was it?

Not quite sure what difference naming the energy company makes 🤷♀️🤣niktheguru said:Also, why not mention the energy company in question. Why are people so ambiguous. Surely a forum is here so you can also help others?Treat others how you would like to be treated. 🤞0 -
Why would they give me compensation if I wasn't paying my bills?welshmoneylover said:what is what is the admin error anyway? Is this down to you not checking and paying your bills?Treat others how you would like to be treated. 🤞0 -
As a forum is here to help others and not just yourself?Cazzaroo said:

Not everyone but there is tendency for posters to begrudge people getting money and needing advice. They just want people to comment about not having money so they can judge and patronize I.e. well you shouldn't have done this or that. Circumstances change and things happen that are out of your control and sometimes we make mistakes. No one is perfect, including you.Treat others how you would like to be treated. 🤞0
