No...........Other than investments that can only be in an individual name.1

Definitely! I've maintained a 'running away' fund throughout my 43 years (so far) of marriage - currently it has over £23K instantly accessible in it. There's also more than enough for me to buy a house, split between various one and two year fixed interest accounts. Our only 'joint' money is less than £2K in our 'house account' used for bill paying.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3664

Ordinarily I would have said no. However I have a personal Monzo account that I only opened for my personal spending so I could keep it separate. I then added loads of pots which although are future savings for joint things such as insurances, Christmas savings etc. I sort of view it as a fund I could use if I ever needed it. Currently sitting at about £3k.Credit Cards NOV 2019 £33,220.42 Sept 2023 £19,951.00 Tilly Tidy 20223/COLOR] Sept £43.71 Here's my diary: A Ditherer's Diary Again1

Our finances are completely separate. We have never had a joint account! We have been together 19 years this year, it's worked fine so far, so no plans to change anything. We split bills and pay them ourselves (eg I pay water, elec and gas, he pays council tax).2

Nope - never, don't forsee that we ever will
Have had joint accounts/finances since we got married 30 years ago - no issues yet

Yes, all accounts are either in one name or the other. I don't consider it a running away fund. Nearly 40 years and never a cross word over money so it works for us.0

Separate accounts. My OH doesn't care how much money is saved and where it's held.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
We have separate savings accounts. It makes financial sense to take advantage of linked savings accounts to our separate, multiple bank accounts.
On top of that I like the independce of having control my own money. And before anyone starts implying that 'one pot' is the only way to prove the strength of the relationship.... 43 years on I disagree! 🤣

I should add its not incase it goes sour as an emergency fund though, as we are married so would be halfed anyway roughly, but just no need to combine. (for us)Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
