After the offer/acceptance exchange you normally negotiate a start date before resigning if not already done so during pre offer stage.

It's a huge firm, they've definitely not gone bust (or its going to make big news!). Ill give it a few more days and if not heard anything ill follow up again.

Thanks again for the replies, really appreciate it
I suspect this is currently the most important thing going on in your life - personally I'd be ringing until I did get to speak to someone - 'leaving it a few days' doesn't seem very sensible ?
I have to say I agree. I would contact somebody more senior or at least establish if the person you are trying to contact is off sick or on holiday.

So ring the switchboard, use the 'contact us' number on the website or turn up at reception and ask - your future income depends on this and it's one of those times when 'next week' won't do
It's a remote job and the offices are the other end of the country unfortunately. Someone from HR is going to call me back apparently,

If a huge company (i.e. one which should have reasonable resources and processes in place) treats you like this before you even start, how much value will they place on you when you do start? Unless it's the offer of a lifetime(!), I'd be trying to smooth things over with your current employer right now.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

It is often huge companies that have gone through process efficiencies, HR moved to a self service model etc etc and so certain central functions like HR are proportionately  small -v- a medium sized enterprise.

The key question here is if the OP has received confirmation of their start date or not. Unless you've promised to try and negotiate down your notice period I'd normally expect that to be done before the notice is served on your current employment.

Personally, for a big company, from confirming notice I wouldn't really expect to be hearing anything until possibly a day or two before the start date when you then get joining instructions. Very rarely have I received a contract before starting unless I have personally asked to see it and even then its tended to be an uncompleted template when I have.

Unless things go wrong you can go a whole career without ever having a conversation with HR these days and so just because its a proportionally small team wouldnt make me concerned about working for the company (unless Im in HR)

...except in their first post OP refers to 'having been in regular contact with HR', so not sure how your above comments would serve to reassure them.

So, when I got the offer over email, there was a "provisional" start date, however nothing has been said since. Prior to the offer, HR emails were answered within 15 mins max, calls were answered or returned within a couple of hours. It's been a couple of weeks since I had a reply about any of it (the person from HR didn't call me back yesterday).
I'm giving them till 5pm on Tuesday to sort it, and if not ill speak to my employer about staying - need to give them time to try and sort it internally, as they've started the process of me leaving, booking interviews for replacements etc.

Thanks for the replies everyone - will provide an update as and when I have one.

Am I understanding it right, in that when you handed your notice in, did you do this on the basis of provisional offer information?

I would speaking to your employer today, not Wednesday morning and trying everything I could to stay.  If they have already advertised and have interviews lined up, I wouldn't be waiting another 5 days.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
