The post doesn’t say the gift of £3,000 by a generous benefactor is being withheld, the post says the ORGANISER went bust, what has that to do with the company that donated the prize, nowhere in the post does it say that the company that donated the prize went bust, the holiday company never ORGANISED the auction, unless the OP says otherwise I can’t see a problem, go to the company that donated the prize and ask them for the prize, simple really, I think the OP just wants their money back which is a different scenario altogether, plus the OP is not bothering to help with any more info.
I agree the OP hasn’t specified but how does an organizer of a charity auction go bust?   From my knowledge the organizers only secure gifts/promises that are bid on.  We do need to know more like who offered the holiday, if they received confirmation of said holiday etc.  I know OP is stating the organizers said they could defer but... not sure why the organizers would have anything more to do with it after the auction ended.  We need more clarification!

OP's reference to 'organisers' could mean the auction organisers, but, in its original context, seems more likely to apply to the package organiser, i.e. the holiday company....
Really, what makes you think that? Sounds like the Charity Organiser went bust, why would the OP call a travel company the organiser as opposed to the donator.

For the same reason I stated above.  HOW does a charity organizer go bust?   Unless the charity organiser has fraudulently taken the money?  All new ball game.

So lets get this straight, you have never heard of people organising fundraising events, booking entertainment, caterers, venues, Marquees and not breaking even? It happens all the time, whilst the organiser probably takes a nice big fat fee. My friend organises a Profitable Charity Golf day every year, he splits all of the donations into 2 some he raffles some he auctions, whoever wins the raffle or auctions he either hands them the goods or an envelope with the prize details, one year 2 first class return tickets to Hong Kong with BA, it is up to the recipient of the prize to deal with the donator (unless there is a problem of course) if my friend emigrated to a desert island with no possible contact, it would be irrelevant as the prize winners have their envelopes. As we all said previously the OP needs to let us know who went bust, and whether they just want their £3,000 back or if they have a problem contacting the donator.
  • Exactly as I said we need the OP to confirm who exactly went bust but as for your other examples.  No!  I have been to lots of Charity auctions over the years and all have been what they say on the tin so guess am naive in that respect.   IF the OP feels the auction was corrupt he needs to inform the police.  As we haven’t more details it is hard to give any opinions.  Same goes for you.  😂

It's a term used extensively in the context of holidays governed by the Package Travel Regulations 2018:

    “organiser” means—

    (a) a trader who combines and sells, or offers for sale, packages, either directly or through another trader or together with another trader; or
    (b) the trader who transmits the traveller’s data to another trader in accordance with paragraph (5)(b)(v);

I am really sorry for not remembering the “Package Travel Regulations 2018” it must have slipped my mind, I am sure (not) that when the OP mentioned the “Organiser” she had all of your facts to hand.
Anyway, if she paid the charity £3,000 and they haven’t come up with the prize that is not her fault, they need to refund her money, if she paid the travel people (or organisers to keep you happy) then they need to honour their donation.
Bearing in mind that the true cost of the holiday was worth a lot more or a lot less than £3,000 depending on the charitable donation of either the OP or the Donator.
As I see it the auction bid of £3,000 was sent to the charity not the donator so it is up to the donator to furnish the promised holiday, whether or not the donator was the organiser.
If the charity was run by the organiser that is a travel company then she has a big problem, please read my post at 7.13

Seventh Anniversary First Post Combo Breaker
Hello.... Thank you for your comments.
Yes it was the fund raiser that went bust who organised the Auction on behalf of said Charity....Wonderland Memorabilia was the organiser of the auction. We also know the Holiday company in Italy have not recieved the money.
As it was an open time scale prize I was hoping this may come under the 570 day ruling and not the 120, as technically I have not recieved a date for the holiday.
It the administrators had contacted us when the company went bust then we would have known of there demise far earlier, but for some reason this was not the case and only found out when we went to enquire about booking a date.

We were so looking forward to it .... sounded very good a 5 day food and drink break in Cortona for four people, trying out various eateries and visiting vinyards... Hey ho
