O/S Daily Tuesday 4 May 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Wet, raining and blowing a gale, wet underfoot and cold.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner yesterday was burgers, sweet chilli chicken, onion rings, salad, coleslaw/potato salad - very nice it was too. Tonight we'll be having fish.
Back to work today - more training so hopefully I'll learn more for the new role.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's raining here, and I've just looked at the forecast, doesn't seem to be a very good week ahead. We weren't planning to go out yesterday, but a friend rang kindly offering us various caravan bits and pieces if we wanted them, stuff like toilet fluid, and waste tank cleaner, and other useful items. They have decided to sell their caravan because one partner has worsening arthritis making it difficult to get in and out of the van. We went and picked up the stuff yesterday afternoon, to get it out of their way.I'm meeting Dil in Newcastle for a coffee, she has an appointment with a podiatrist, so I'll meet her beforehand, then will do a bit of shopping. It'll be the first time I've used public transport in over a year.I hope Gers and her Mum have had a quiet night. Also. glad Snoozer's Steve is improving a bit, and thinking of our other poorly people.Take care folks.15

Morning All
Very threatening again today, the rain yesterday would have floated the ark, it didn't stop all day. Managed to get to change the border fork without a problem and had a quick trip to Ikea to get the little one a bed guard - she was half way out of her cot the other night so DD has had to take the side off and make it into a bed.
Hope you've had a quiet night Gers.
Glad to hear Steve has improved snoozer, hope it continues.
Hugs to those under the weather.
It'll be a strange week at work, off yesterday and an in-service day on Thursday as it's voting day, I'll certainly not know what day it is!
Take care. XX16 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Remind me what month it is - it's like November out there! The wind is howling with the trees blowing every which way. It's fine at the moment but more rain is due mid morning. Surely it can't exceed yesterday's biblical downpours. Good job I have no plans to venture out in it! It fooled me at 5.00 with the sun peeping over the top of the curtains and the Dawn Chorus in full voice.
I started to shorten the VERY LONG skirt I got from the M & S sale yesterday. It's now pinned up and sitting on the table until I can make the effort to get the machine out. With no sign of summer returning there doesn't seem any rush to do it.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and poorly loved ones. Thinking, as always, of GERS and DM. Hoping SNOOZER's Steve is making good progress now after the change in AB's. Take care one and all x

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
It was cold yesterday but Beano and I managed to get three walks in yesterday before the weather got really bad, highlands and torrential rain. There is lots of debris in the water. We have prescriptions to collect today and parcels from DD1's I can't go in as the children are isolating, there are Covid cases in their school.I
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.14 -
Morning all! Sun is apparently shining just to lull me into a false sense of security. I potentially have stuff to do in garden depending on whether the weather stays as it is and doesn't descend into approaching Dracula's castle storm status. I have a toy to play with and my tomatoes need potting on into good compost. I pretty much cooked all day yesterday, a crustless quiche, a chicken paprika and rice meal, a banana cake for himself and some poridge oat muffins for myself. There's no cooking today thank god. There's the chicken thing leftovers for today and the muffins for breakfast and the quiche for lunch. Job done. That's the only thing about a diet really, you end up thinking about food a lot more than you did before, and let me tell you, I thought a LOT about food anyway! Maybe I should have been a cook.Plans for today, potentially garden, Italian lesson [ it's really weird, more than three quarters of an hour sends me to sleep in front of the computer] garden chat if there's time and weather and ferry OH back and forth.Encouraging news then snoozer, what a relief! And you are suppsed to at least taste the cocktails... a few times, to make sure..Hester, I'm glad your son and you have a normal one for a change
Gers, it's funny but when it was happening with my father I read everything I could on the internet about what was going to happen and how. It did help a bit, but that is me and I find it easier when I know the process of things. To be honest though, it's only looking back that I know when and how things were happening. At the time, it just felt every day was fraught, tnse and draining. . Hugs to you both. Ruby, your feta thing sounded delicious. A plan for my future menu..
nanny, the next stump, do a la redneck. Tie a chain round it and get the car out...Hey to the readers along, hope you're all doing as good as you can be, stay safe and wrapped up today...

Morning everyone
Scarlet Ribbons - I too have a trip to Newcastle today. I have a chest scan at RVI and then a trip to Primark and TK Maxx planned. Would have been nice to have a dry day to sit outside and have a cuppa and a sandwich ....at the minute I think the cup would blow away!
Little one came up for a play and her tea yesterday - it turns out she loves chicken in honey and mustard sauce! - she kept asking for 'a bit more of your tea granny.'
Hope everyone has a good day today and love to you and your mum Gers

Morning folksThanks for the wishes - I really need them just now. Yesterday was truly awful, I managed to climb into bed at 11p.m. and then was up with DM at 1am. The nurses came out and didn't leave until 3.30am. DM gets agitated about stuff and when the nurses were here she was in a high old state. A bit of Oramorph calmed her down as well as the spasms she was having. A hospital bed is being delivered today as her own bed is too low for the nurses / carers to use safely. Her bed is a lovely solid wood affair with electric motor to rise the back and legs, however it has to go. Alan came round and together we moved DM's wardrobe out of the bedroom along with a couple of other bits of furniture. All her clothes from it are now lying across the dining table and draped on chairs. Once the hospital bed comes he'll return with a power drill to dismantle DM's bed and remove it.Taff - I have read up all about this end of life process and following it through. Despite the difficulties for me, and they are increasing, I'm determined to keep DM out of hospital if at all possible. For her sake and for mine.As Camelot said...yesterday was the day of the flood. I've not seen rain like it for ages and today promises to be only slightly better. I had some plans for today, however now I have to wait in for the bed, a call from the Home Care office etc. Carers are being sent in for DM's personal care though I'm not sure how it will work out. Last Friday DM was right at the end and she's stepped back slightly.Snoozer - I'm so pleased with Steve's good news, I hope he continues to make good progress.Scarlett & dp1 - enjoy your visits into Newcastle.Bella - pie and mash sounds so tasty.TA - happy sewing.Happy Tuesday to everyone.17

Thanks everyone, it looks like the change is working. Apparently he woke up soaking in the night and his temperature was down to normal, also the doctor he saw yesterday told him it looked as if his bone marrow was starting to work again so hopefully his immune system is recovering. I didn't go in yesterday but I'll book a visit today.
I finished quilting the table runner and attached the front of the binding, just need to hand sew the back - it will be a bit quicker than Csarina's quilt. I need to get a card for Steve's nephew's birthday and post it first class because his birthday is tomorrow.
Thinking of Gers and her mum. Also, I hope Poppy, Nels and Marie and any other poorly people are feeling as well as possible.14 -
Gers. Yes, please keep your Mum out of hospital if you can. It was Dad's dread that he would die in hospital and I moved heaven and earth to get him moved into a beautiful nursing home just round the corner from me. He died 7 hours before he was due to be collected from the hospital, in the most horrific circumstances. I have never forgiven myself, although there was nothing else I could have done.
You have a lot to go through. We are all rooting for you.
Love. xI believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.15
