This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, it's bright and sunny here, but cold.Nanny, I'm so pleased that the appointment with the oncologist was positive, hope DH doesn't have to wait long for a face to face appt.Csarina those quilts you've made are beautiful, you should be proud of yourself.Bella you sound full of busy as usual, fit in some down time as well though.Gers, hope you and Mum had a quiet night.Snoozer, hope Steve's anti b's are working. We are supposed to be meeting up with Ds2 and family at some point this weekend, we can fit in with them, there's not much else happening. We usually meet up somewhere like the North Shields fish quay, and walk on the beach if possible, There are fish and chip shops as well, so no one need go hungry! Though the last time we met was in the riverside park here.DD and fam have gone to their caravan till Monday, they'll have a good time. I was trying to explain to Dgs the other day that our touring caravan is not as big and posh as their static, but he's only 3, so it was difficult. We'll probably stay at a little site near them one weekend if we can book, and he can stay with us for a night if he wants to. When Dgd stayed with us one night she was enchanted by the fact that the seats turned into beds!Hoping that everyone has a good Saturday, and thinking of our poorly people. Take care folks.14

Morning All
Thanks for the start Scarlet, enjoy meeting up with your family.
It's a bit damp outside this morning so the washing can lounge about on the airer, hopefully it will be better tomorrow and I can get the bedding done. Cleaned the bathrooms last night and had a hoover round, the new vacuum is great for getting under the bed to get rid of all the little dust bunnies, having wooden floors has it's downsides!
I have to visit the allotment this morning then I'm going up to DS1's to see him and the DGC - I haven't tried out their new trampoline yet! Hoping the roads aren't too busy so will leave it until later to come home.
I managed to walk every morning during the week and went swimming 3 times so was absolutely pooped last night, watched some TV and went for an early night. I'm having a rest today from walking but will go tomorrow.
Hoping you had a quiet night Gers and your DM is comfortable.
Your tummy bug sounds to have been rotten Ruby, hope you feel better now.
Glad you heard from the consultant Nanny, a face to face appointment is always better.
Keep going bella, you must be nearly there now!
Right, must get moving, have a good bank holiday weekend. Take care. XX12 -
Morning all sunny but chilly as usual heating on and i have a cuppa going to do a quick clean through then go to the other house fill the loft there and stay for a couple of days and get some cleaning done and organising done there as well . The surveyor for the buyer is due on the 11th and i have to vacate the property while they are here for at least 2 hours hopefully it won't be too long after that till we can fully move over.
Sending hugs and extra strength to all our poorlies and those looking after them especially Nanny's Mr fix it ,Gers and her mum,Nels, Marie, Snoozers Steve and Dumpling
Have a great day stay safe xSlava Ukraini14 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light and dry, sunny, looks like we've had a slight frost, air feels nippy.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and a brekkie bar. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken steaks, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. I have some turkey defrosting that is going to become a turkey curry for tonight's dinner.
Yesterday I got done what I wanted to and today I'll be going shortly to the SM to pick up a newspaper, some indian snacks and some salad that I couldn't get yesterday. The turkey is one of the items from the freezer that we want to get used up now the freezer has been defrosted and we can see what we have. Shopping bill was supposed to be a bit cheaper because I'm on operation "use up what we already have" but it was still £100 - although I did buy a few extra bits as it's Bank Holiday weekend and we still are not able to do much or go very far.
My nails look gorgeous and it just makes such a difference to how my hands look and how it makes me feel, now feeling so much better, hair has been cut and coloured and nails done. Just makes such a difference!
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Scarlet and hugs to all those in need.
We moved yesterday, it was an easy trip as we had friends helping, I walked the tow path with a friend and our dogs, we did the locks and bridges. We stopped for breakfast at a canal side cafe and then moved along and moored up. We are here for a few day whilst we wait for the engineer to come and look at our bow thruster as it's making a strange noise.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Morning all.
Hoping your night was fairly peaceful Gers. It must be almost impossible for you to relax.
Hoping that you are feeling a better about the advice you are being given Nan.
Hope your legs are more comfortable dumpling.
Remembering all our other poorlies today, snoozer, Nels, Marie and anyone else that my befuddled brain has forgotten.
Not much here to report. Bright sunshine that I hope will continue. We have a Street Craft Fair in the Village today and it would be a shame if it was rained off.
Wishing you all a peaceful weekend.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.15 -
Morning, hugs if you need one. Special hugs for Gers and her Mum.
Washing in, the weather report for Monday is not good, the washing basket was full to overflowing so I have divided it into 2 loads, One load has two tracksuit trousers two tops a jumper and a fleece in. The first load the normal body washing.
Thank you for the comment about the quilt Scarlet Ribbons, I did not do the quilting on it. Too big to go through my machine, so I took it to a lady in Leicester, collected it yesterday, I now have to do the binding and sew in the label, then it can go to Niblet. So guess what I am going to be doing today!!
Grilled gammon egg, tomato and fried bread for supper. There is still some chocolate mousse left, thats dessert sorted.11 -
Nanny, I was pleased to see your post, I hope you got a good night's sleep last night. Gers too, there's not a lot to say, except that along with all your friends on here I am thinking of you. It's amazing how much of a community we have on here although most of us have never met. Even if I don't manage to post I look forward to hearing how Bella's house move is going and about dp1's little granddaughter and even the more mundane posts hold interest.
I've been at Laura's the last couple of days baby wrangling while Laura was at college and Brian was packing etc for their trip to Scotland to see his family for the first time in ages. Yesterday was challenging to say the least, poor Esben was not happy, he's going through the clingy phase and was missing his mum especially as he seemed a bit under the weather yesterday.
Steve is still in hospital and nothing has really changed since he went in. They did a bone marrow biopsy to try to find out why his immune system has crashed. That was two days ago but we've not had results yet. I am visiting this afternoon, I booked it yesterday and was told to ring back this morning if he was moved because each bed has it's own specific visiting time. Of course he was moved last night but the timing is a bit better for me, it's now 1pm instead of 5pm.
We were going up to Yorkshire on Friday but that looks unlikely now and we had booked a van site in Hereford the week after and I'm beginning to think that is not going to happen either. Not that it's important compared to Steve's health but both of us have been really looking forward to getting out and about after the last two years. Everyone suffered through the lockdowns but the previous year Steve wasn't really well enough to do too much either.
Apart from visiting I want to go and get him another pair of pyjamas so he has two pairs at the hospital for changes. I am also continuing the flea wars, which hopefully I seem to be winning slowly.15 -
waiting for one of my sons to give me a hand in the greenhouse. back is too painful for me to any lifting of growbags and soil but I have a few tomato plants and a mini cucumber that need planting and a few sweet pea plants to pot on. I will reward him with some alcohol free lagers as he doesn't drink.
Hope everyone has a good day. Thinking of you Gers.12 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here but still chilly I hope it warms up soon, its very cold in the evenings. OH gone to the boot sale and dd gone to meet a friend for a dog walk so only me and little pup here and she is up on the bed in the sun so nice and peaceful ! Im just having a cuppa and might make a bacon and egg sandwich as I am starving !
Camelot my tummy seems a lot better today and yesterday it went on for about four days though so im glad its gone is never a nice thing to have to keep running to the loo
Yesterday after posting I showered and washed my hair and put on 'outside' clothes and got ready for the hospital I was just leaving and got the letter out to take with me only to see it was next Fridaythank goodness I did not actually get there and go in I would have looked very daft ! I went and picked the shopping up instead and we got that put away and then took the dogs out for a walk.
Today OH and I are going to take a drive out and walk little pup and then stop at a couple of hardware shops, OH has taken to doing up old tools and is making a lovely job of them, he needs a new axe handle, now I cant bear shopping at the best of times I tend to nip in and out and get what I need really quickly, BUT give me a hardware shop and I could hapily spend hours in there the old fashioned ones are the best so I am looking forward to it very much !
Csarina your quilt is absolutly beautiful.
Gers I hope mum had a good night xx
Snoozer I hope Steve is well when you visit later xx
Thinking of Nels lets hope it warms up soon for your poor hands xx
Have good days all xx
