Wow! The reality is you may or may not buy the house and you wouldn't be given the opportunity to buy my place if you had an attitude like that! :p

Pop your head up through the loft hatch, fair enough - crawl around an un-boarded loft space, not a chance!

oh well still plenty of other houses up for sale.
Half the threads on this forum are complaining of the opposite, that there's hardly anything available to buy in the current climate...

Not sure anybody here is demanding more than that, tbh - but in the OP's case it appears even the hatch is currently out of bounds.

When I bought my house we hadn't been able to inspect the loft space. Much later we decided to replace the roof (tiles) and the roofer found that part of the structure (going from the a corner to the ridge) had an old floorboard with a big split in instead and more substantial beam. This meant the tiling stopped whilst it was  worked out how to proceed and building control had visited.

This caused lots of stress but fortunately the remedial work was not too expensive.

Would you have seen this in a visual inspection yourself.  I don’t think I would to be honest.  If it wasn’t unearthed until much later had you been in the loft since you lived in?

    did you get a survey?

sorry for the questions - I am buying a house and haven’t looked in the loft.  But it’s 20 years old so I hope it’s fine😊

But, of course, what happens if the loft is full of boxes and stuff when you do stick your head up there? You can't see anything... So do you then demand to start shuffling stuff around?

I have an abject fear of lofts so bolt them shut !!!  I either get them converted or leave them be and lock them up

I have asked surveyor to inspect the loft as much as he can do even if loft is loaded with lot of stuffs. It is 90 year old house. Water tank is not there. Let see what survey report would show next week.

Seeing what you can is better than nothing - same principle as what might be lurking e.g. behind the furniture downstairs.

Oh dear! Not sure how you'd deal with my house then, we have four loft hatches and they're all (slightly obscured) glass so you can pretty much see if there's anything up there; quite amusing when one of the cats runs up a loft ladder unnoticed, goes exploring and is only discovered hours after the hatches have been shut again when someone looks up and notices a cat-shaped blob sleeping on the other side of one of the glass hatches! (We also saw a squirrel had managed to get in there one time as well and was scurrying across the glass...)

I think I could cope with that ..it's the fear of the dark I have .. anything  or anyone could be lurking !!!
