It must be a matter of whether Barclay's system accepts 15-digit card numbers. This thread from 2014 https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4815412/can-you-balance-transfer-from-an-amex-to-a-barclaycard-visa suggests you can't, but maybe has it changed since then?

This is purely a decision for Barclaycard... why not just ask them?0

A lot of providers can but it has to be done manually by them.

I did one September and it went through fine.0

Yup, done this a few years ago, and with MBNA. I had to call MBNA due to the 15 digits.0

I've done several over the last 2-3 years without problems.

Does anyone know why Amex use 15 digits instead of 16 ?

Credit and charge cards haven't always had 16 digits, -my first Barclaycard back in the 80s only had 13 digits. I presume that the numbers got longer to cater for more customers. Maybe Amex still doesn't have enough customers to need 16 digits?Alex9384 said:Does anyone know why Amex use 15 digits instead of 16 ?0 -
Even allowing for the fact each card number has limited variations e.g. using 5 for master card or 4 for visa, plus the other identifiers and the final digit being a checksum, every issuer (and there are approx. 100,000 in the world) can have a billion or so combinations based on the 16 digit one, highly unlikely that is the reason.EarthBoy said:
