Can you balance transfer from an Amex to a Barclaycard VISA

Does anyone know if you can do a balance transfer from an Amex charge card and/or credit card to a Barclaycard (or other high street credit cards)?

In theory, yes. In practice, there have been a few people reporting problems when quoting the AmEx 15-digit number.

should be ok. other card providers will want debt from an Amex card just as much as from any other credit card.

I transferred from Amex to Nationwide no problem. Nationwide even lets you select the type of Amex and gives you the issuer identification number so you don't do it wrong...

You cant online, it does not accept this, but possibly you might get it if you call instead.

If anyone wants to know I spoke to Barclaycard and they will transfer from an AMEX credit card but not a charge card

Did anyone get a conclusion for this. Currently having a lot of trouble with Barcley Card customer service trying to do a balance transfer from Amex card.

Can confirm for anyone else stumbling across this thread (as i did when trying to find the answer) Barclay Card wont let you transfer from Amex Charge Card (i.e amex platinum). Called up and got a 'computer says invalid card number' answer, didn't try take it any further. Was able to transfer fine from Amex Credit Card though.
