How had the paint been damaged?

... by no longer being inside a sealed tin?

Yes, technically the *tins* were damaged, but the paint wouldn't be useable any more ...

I know this is MSE, but I suspect most people would not scrape the paint back up, pick the carpet fluff out, put it in a new container, and go "Whew! Saved that one!" :)

It is the terminology used perhaps that perplexes.

Paint damaged isn't something I would say if the tins were damaged and the paint had exited.

As for scraping paint back up, not sure where you mean to go with that one.

Perhaps it was tartan paint and the colours ran?

I understand your perplexion and implied pedantry. However, the paint is (by my reckoning) also damaged, as in not usable, because it is not in a tin or other suitable sealed container any more.

My "scraping paint up to save it" comment was just a joke based on this being MSE, and people will go to ludicrous lengths to save small amounts of money, it's what this site is based on :)

I dunno, walls that look like velour could be very en vogue at the moment

    No pedantry, implied or otherwise.

If the paint wasn't in the tin, how do you suppose it remained in strong cardboard box?

I suspect the tins were damaged, not the paint.  Not pedantic, but merely correct.

Hello again and thank you for your replies
The tins were made of metal and the tall ones. This is what the buyer said happened " not sure where to raise this issue but the paint has been delivered completely cracked with paint all over the place!
whilst i know this isn’t your fault i do want to understand what can be done here?

as soon as it’s been delivered it’s leaked all over my living room carpet also.

The reason I refunded was because the buyer could have got a refund from either Paypal or Ebay as the goods arrived damaged. Im actually over £80 out of pocket myself but refunding was the right thing to do.

Do you mean that the "tins" had been delivered completely cracked, not sure how paint could crack.
Also had the paint leaked because the lid(s) had come loose and had paint escaped from both tins? If only one tin had leaked then the other was perfectly usable and so only half the cost needed to be refunded. Do you have photos of the delivered box with spilt paint that you can share?
