Just a quick question. Sorry if It seems like I'm hijacking this thread. I'm not. Just have a quick question.

What happens if, at the door, the Royal Mail courier wants the money (as stated may happen in the link) but the person receiving the item doesn't have any money on them at the time?

I just recently pre-ordered Sabrina The Teenage Witch Series 3 dvd from the USA and I know that some custom/import duties may apply.

    xx

RM will never request money at the door.
this is why people are carded.
then you can pay by post, online or in person at the delivery office

    would you believe it!
i got charged today for 40 dollars worth of stuff from the usa.
no duty but vat came to 4 quid and the PO ripoff charge of 8 quid.
so sum total was 12 quid for 20 quids worth of stock! ie 60%.
moral? make sure your supplier doesnt split the order.

the sooner they privatise the royal mail the better. they dont take CC (no facilities!) and they only take the correct money! (no change!).
they really are still in the 19th century !!!!!!.
    Get some gorm.

That was a bit rough but import VAT is payable if the value of the goods is £18 or over. However, shipping and insurance costs are included when calculating the amount for duty and VAT. Also, certain items attract an excise duty (before customs duty and VAT) which could push the value up more. Finally, the sender may have overstated the value of the goods on the customs slip so although you paid $40, they could have been declared by the sender as $50 so customs would use that figure.

had you read the card you would have seen it stated correct money only.
i think they are in the process of printing off new cards to state fee's can now be paid online.
no doubt you had a right go at the person who served you as well.......................

if RM was privatised as you seem to want then the charge would be higher.(its already been stated they want ot raise the fee's but it wasnt permitted)
so be careful what you wish for

loads of ugg boots in for charges today so if you are ordering them be prepared for around £12 more on the price per pair

Many carriers have standard charges over more than 8 pounds and they always make the charge unlike the PO.

As has been said you need to be prepared for the worst and regard it as a bonus if it gets through without charges.

its the sheer volume RM handle that make the charging hit or miss.
other carriers dont handle the same volume and nearly all are fully tracked

I ordered a coat from USA. It cost £97 in a Sale but the stupid vendor obviously put the original price on the package, so I've been charged a higher percentage of import duty/vat than necessary (15% and 23% respectively) then he charged me 75$ for P&p, (steep, but at that time I thought it was a bargain) and parcelforce charged me £13.50 for clearance.... so all in all, a coat which cost less than £100 has cost me £35 for postage and another £50 in tax and parcelforce charges. I'm fuming. How come it is random whether or not you pay it? I thought everyone had to? that just doesn't seem fair :-(

By the way I don't mind paying what i owe, but I do object to paying a higher percentage just because it was in a sale, and I do object to parcel force charging me again when I've already paid £35 in postage.

I feel like I've been a mug and I thought I was being clever!
