£14.5k for 8 windows and 2 doors?

CR Smith have quoted me £14.5k to replace 8 windows and 2 doors, with the caveat that the price will rise to over £16k at the end of the month (just 3 days away).

This seems high. Am I being scammed by the salesman? CR Smith get very good reviews and Which rated them top, but this quote seems excessive.

Thanks.

"There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person's lawful prey. It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money – that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot – it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better."

Without any clues as to the type of property, size of windows, door type its impossible to say.

You can price the windows yourself using online suppliers (https://www.justdoorsuk.com/diy-windows.php) and get another couple of quotes to compare.

CR smith one of the most expensive ...  have you got the managers special plus the preferential discount yet. Or do they not pull  that one anymore.

    Get 3 or 4 quotes.

As someone has said you do not say size or type of windows.
  • The windows are all white UPVC casement windows for a semi-detached:

    2 x 180x130cm
    2 x 180x100cm
    4 x 120x100cm

The doors are also UPVC with windowed side panels:

    1 x 90x200cm plus 75x200 side panel
    1 x 90x200cm plus 60x200 side panel

It should be nearer half what you have been quoted if everything is PVC.

Find a local small company and get a quote. Where are you based?

A good local independent would charge around half that or less.

Not sure where you are, but try Tradeframe.com who have an anonymous online pricing tool for windows and doors.

I have that as just over 5k max . I don't want your work or trying to sell myself , I have seen quotes before from C R smith . Everest . Anglian . safe style ect and the sales technique should have been banned in the 80s . Nothing wrong with the windows or the fitters in most of the above but most local companies can half national prices . White upvc windows and doors . Unless there is something unique with your house keep getting quotes and you will find someone who knows what they are saying . Not from a text book and wont have you over with their prices .
