I get these all the time, I prefer the ones that say they're going to give me huge sums of money if I give them my bank account details.
Winnings :D

• I HAVE ALSO HAD THIS 1 IN THE PAST AS WELL AS EBAY AND BARCLAYS. JUST TRASH THEM STRIGHT AWAY AND DO NOT CLICK TO OPEN THEM AS THAT IS HOW THEY GET INTO YOUR SYSTEM.

thanks for this.
• I have told paypal about it.

The information that I found about these scammers informs me that they operate from Russia somewhere. They did a similiar scam a year ago, stating that you have pending money that needs verification.

As this one was slightly different, I thought I'd bring it to people's attention.

Wait a minute! I was logged on to the PayPal website last night and they said I had to jump through all sorts of hoops to withdraw money - and they are 'foreign' ... Luxembourg I heard last - is that a scam too?

I forward every email I get from paypal to spoof@paypal.com. They get back to me every time with a response. 99% of them are scams. It pays to forward them, as it help them to locate the fraudsters and see the real scale of the problem. I advise everyone to do this. It only takes a few seconds to forward it

I must admit, I used to ignore the ones I thought were scams, until I received a genuine one, telling me there was a problem on my account. I just deleted it. I only realised it was genuine when I tried to pay with paypal and couldn't
I always log onto paypal now through my browser. I have also had spoof emails supposedly from Boots, John Lewis etc, and I get them daily from just about every bank in the UK, and I only bank with one. Just stick to the browser. It's safer. Trust no emails and you cant go wrong. Here is a copy of a reply I have just received from my latest forward......................................................................................................

Thanks for taking an active role by reporting suspicious-looking emails.
The email you forwarded to us is a phishing email, and our security team
is working to disable it.

What is a phishing email?
Phishing emails attempt to steal your identity and will often ask you to
reveal your password or other personal or financial information. PayPal
will never ask for your password over the phone or in an email and will
always address you by your first and last name.

Take our Fight Phishing Challenge at
https://www.paypal.com/fightphishing to learn 5 things you should know
about phishing. You'll also see what we're doing to help fight fraud
every day.

You've made a difference.
Every email counts. By forwarding a suspicious-looking email to
spoof@paypal.com, you've helped keep yourself and others safe from
identity theft.

Thanks,

There is a sticky on the ebay and other auctions forum about spoof emails from paypal and ebay. Read that thread...the first three words on this poor spoof mail gave it away, there was no need to read any further.
