Nokia 1 plus proving impossible to get unlocked from Vodafone

Can anybody advise how it’s possible to unlock my friend’s Nokia 1 plus which is tied in with Vodafone. My friend bought it last year and tried to get it unlocked, but they couldn’t do it, even after sending it away to the ‘tech guys’. She gave up and left it for a number of months. I then suggested I try to see if I could do anything. I took it to a local mobile phone shop three weeks ago; however, they have not been able to achieve unlocking it and told me they had tried several places and did a factory reset. They also tried the ‘tech guys’ to no avail.  I understand it is the manufacturer who holds the unlock code for Nokias, but how is this achieved? Is it the case that Vodafone need to contact the manufacturer; the guys at the phone shop say the responses they receive back just says rejected or not enough data.

It sounds like everything has been tried, except perhaps risking £2-3 for 'Nokia 1 unlock code' offered by several on eBay.

The phone should work with Lebara network, they run on Vodafone and will send a SIM for free that you can try, they currently offer some of the best value tariffs.

Thank you for this.  However, my friend wants to change to Tesco SIM card as with this one she can just purchase a voucher when she wants rather than have a monthly tariff. Not many seem to offer a PAYG when you want to add credit. The mobile companies only seem to focus on monthly payments which some people particularly older people who are light users, don’t want to commit to.  It wouldn’t be so bad if you can unlock a phone, but with Vodafone they certainly make it impossible to change.
