Ppi tax redund

Hi All,
I recently received a tax refund from hmrc which says they have sent it to Brooksdale Ltd.
After looking into this it appears to be from 2016.
I contacted hmrc and they said the have a letter of authority for this, I however dispute this and I am waiting on a copy of the letter.
I have sent couple of emails to the tax refund company and not had a response.
I absolutely swear I have not signed anything giving brooksdale permission to do this.
My question is would the original ppi claim company pass on my details to the tax refund company?
I am not too worried about the money just the fact that they tax refund company can now make further claims.
What's even more worrying i still have had no cheque from them, and there online contact form goes to a Gmail address!
Surely the hmrc should be checking and contacting people who sign any agreement for a 3rd party to claim tax on their nvehalf?
Anyone else had any dealings with brooksdale?
Thanks in advance.

HMRC can't over ride any contract you've signed with a third party.
You'll need to persevere with contacting them and getting a copy to the contract. Check also your original claims company contract.

I will persevere with this, and have contacted ppi company.
I just think it is a bit dodgy that the ppi company can give the tax company authority to claim the tax on my behalf after 5 years.

DSAR the PPI firm and the tax people - it could be that the tax firm is part of PPI firm for example, just operating a different bit under a different name - if you look up the 2 on companies house you might find they are1

Two things on this - Brooksdale Ltd doesn't appear on the FCA register and therefore isn't (currently) authorised to undertake regulated claims management activity.
However, PPI tax refund isn't a regulated activity so they don't need to be. They appear to be trading as Your Tax Rebates from Salford - try info@yourtaxrebates.co.uk

A PPI company we had dealt with successfully in the past contacted us with regard to reclaiming the tax we paid on our payouts. We signed up with them and after a long time HMRC sent a letter dated 20 April 2021 informing us of a refund which would be sent to Brooksdale Ltd within 14 days. As we had not heard anything by middle to late May, I contacted Brooksdale and was informed that it would take around another 3 weeks for it to be processed. Yet another month has gone by and I telephoned them again today. They said that they had not received the breakdown calculation form from HMRC and were waiting for this. There was a full calculation on the back of the letter I received from HMRC and they asked me to send it to them by email. In my opinion, they are charletans who receive people's tax refunds but take their time about passing them on. There is a lot of negative feedback on the internet about this company. I am so angry that I have to mess about like this and I am not happy about sending my personal details over an email.

It's a little late to worry about sending them some numbers by email. You keep using the same company to post letters you could send yourself, and in doing so are giving them more and more data each time.
It's time to cut ties with them once and for all - send them the information and tell yourself never to use a claims company again.1
