As per the title, could anyone recommend a decent place to buy/rent in North East England.
My son has a new job up there, covering an area that includes Doncaster, Sheffield, Boston, Scunthorpe and Selby.
it’s going to be a fair bit of commuting to various locations but his partner is living in Leeds for the next 3 years.
Thanks in advance!

It's quite a large area, but personally I'd say Doncaster is probably the most accessible out of all those to all the others, either train or road. Plus it's easy access to Leeds by train/road. It's not the most exciting of place itself, but has all the usual amenities of a large town.
Or maybe a bit further south like Retford ?1 -
Thanks, I think thought Doncaster was possible the best option but after any more ideas!fishfingerbutties said:It's quite a large area, but personally I'd say Doncaster is probably the most accessible out of all those to all the others, either train or road. A woman from Doncaster visits her caravan here regularly and was involved in the recent floods there, do tell your son to check the flood risks.£216 saved 24 October 20140

I’m not sure if I’m missing the joke here, but none of those places are in North East England. Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, these are in North East England.davilown said:As per the title, could anyone recommend a decent place to buy/rent in North East England.

It took me many years of living in Scotland to get used to people referring to the South, when they were talking about places I'd grown up thinking of as in the North!davilown said:

I can highly recommend Barnsley, it is absolutely central for the places listed (20 minutes to Doncaster and 20 minutes to Leeds/Sheffield)
the house prices are some of the lowest in the country and crime is quite low. Plus the town centre is undergoing a huge regeneration (and the biggest Hermes hub will open next year with 2500 new jobs!)

I'm glad to see the new MSE forum system doesn't censor the middle of Scunthorpe like the old one did.3

I relocated from Essex to Cumbria and am still deeply confused by the fact Sheffield is 2.5 hours south of me.2 -
