Awful Company - Net World Sports

Hi, I am after some advice and would be extremely grateful for any support.
I bought at the start of April a Table Tennis table for my partners Birthday.
As a lot of people, we have been making the most of our garden and have been staying at home over the duration of the Pandemic.
I thought this would be a lovely thing to receive and would help make a fun entertaining day.
The item was bought off the Vermont site but came from Net World Sports. There was mention of Net World Sports at the time of ordering.
We opened the box on the day and we’re so disappointed.
The table was damaged beyond use and repair. The screws that secure the table to the legs were not fixed and are not fixable. The legs were already fixed upside down and the table was damaged from where the screws had been a fixed previously and had torn from it.
Over the following week, I tried on numerous occasions to speak with the firm (Networld Sports) but when calling, they had a pre-recorded message advising they could not answer phones currently due to their mail box being full and unprecedented demand....
We emailed them a couple of times but they never responded.
They advertised live chat but this is none existent when I clicked on the link.
After viewing their Facebook Reviews, it seems we’re not the only people that have been sent shoddy items or been scammed.
I felt protected as I had ordered through PayPal. However to cut a long story short, although they have agreed via PayPal to refund when a complaint was lodged, they expect us to pay the cost of the return. The table is huge and weighs 25kg. After pricing the return, this will cost over £60
After discussing this will PayPal’s customer service, they tell me there is nothing further that can be done and the company are in their rights to request this??! The table is damaged beyond repair? Why should I have to pay over £50 to return a faulty item?
I have a deadline of the 2nd May to return a damaged faulty item at a cost of £60 to myself to receive a £100 refund. How can this be legal?

The company do not answer any of their emails and there’s no way to get in touch with them direct. What can so do?
Any advice would be appreciated extremely.

Was this via facebook/Instagram or other social media site?
https://www.networldsports.co.uk/contacts
If it is the site you bought from, has all the contact details you need...Life in the slow lane0 -
The website is Vermont Sports....and as mentioned above, we’ve tried all the contact methods for them. As you can see, instead of their address being for Vermont Sports, this addresses them as being Net World Sports. It’s the same company.
Phone number doesn’t work
They don’t respond to emails
Their Chat function is none existent.
As mentioned, I’ve opened up a dispute with PayPal as I paid this way. The company have agreed to refund providing I post this heavy cumbersome huge Tennis Table back to them at a cost to myself! It arrived faulty and broken with huge chunks of wood chipped and missing. It had also been partially fixed together with the legs already the wrong way round and bowing. Surely I shouldn’t be liable for posting such a huge, heavy and costly faulty item back? It will cost me almost the cost of the table to do so?
Net World Sport reviews are diabolical. There’s plenty of other people they have scammed.
Please can someone advise how I deal with this. I don’t want them to get away with posting damaged faulty items and leaving me with the only option of posting it back at almost the cost of the table. Surely I’m protected by some sort of consumer rights and law? What do I do next?

You are protected by consumer law but if they're being unresponsive your options are a little limited, so you may have to go to small claims court.
Send them a letter before action saying that they should arrange collection within 14 days and issue a full refund once they have the table back, or you will take them to court. In the meantime, package it back up and store it safely somewhere. Send the letter by post, getting a receipt for postage.
If they don't respond in the states timeframe, come back and people will advise on the small claims process.
In future, don't use PayPal. It just puts a middleman into the process. You have more protection if you pay by card, preferably credit card.1 -
The PM was at Net World Sports yesterday. Perhaps he'll use his legendary skills of governance to sort out your problem.
Or make it worse. An even more damaged table will be delivered to your neighbour by Serco for the price of £37bn.4 -
I saw him on the news playing (badly) table tennis, but didn't see where it was he was at.Jenni x0

In the interest of people who may see this thread and think the worst of Net World Sports, I have used them many times and have never had a problem with their products.0
