Could anyone recommend good reverse look up site for mobile phone numbers please? I have found one for that has information on the location and is asking for 95 pence for the look up.

The number does not appear to have been reported as a spam/marketing call however I ignored it at the time because I was receiving a lot of spam calls. I would prefer to find out who called me before I return the call. Thank you.

Is there really such a thing? The existence of PAYG makes any lookup system inaccurate as there will be so many numbers that have no details against them.
Original number provider & location of use, probably out of date & wrong, is the best that you can hope for

If its a junk/spam call just mark it as spam, forget about it and move on.  Don't call any numbers you don't recognise.

Majority of these numbers will be spoofed anyway so if you call them they won't work, and any genuine ones will only tell you what network the first five digits started on.  The advent of porting means that's not a reliable method to find out the network.  And as above, PAYG you can just pick up a SIM, stick some credit on it that you can buy as a top-up from anywhere and you don't need to provide any details whatsoever.

TL;DR - not going to happen.  Mark as spam and move along.  Any genuine calls who want to talk to you will usually leave a voicemail/message or make contact from a number you already know.

Isn't there a requirement to either give i/d or pay by card for SIMs?  Won't stop it being bought under false i/d or stolen card I s'pose

None at all. There will be no link to the card used to buy it as that info stays with the retailer.

Top up vouchers can be bought anywhere.

I tried one of the sites for location and it located the number, provider and said that the phone was still active.  Location would help identify the caller. I am not bothered about wasting 95 pence but don't like using card details in unfamiliar sites that is why I wondered if anyone had experience of using these look up sites. Thanks.

Location at best would be only an approximation  using triangulation from a number of masts that it is connected to. I doubt very much whether that is real-time data.

Took a further look at the website and it appears to be one of those sites that has terms and conditions. A bit like the magazine subscription sites where you get a cheap trial and then you find that your account has been debited with the full subscription if you don't cancel straight away.

All (commercial at least) websites have T&Cs, that's just a backside covering exercise.  More importantly, forget the website wanting 95p to tell you something that may or may not be of benefit to you.

As I've already said, mark the call as spam and then go and do something else.
