Try step change they are a lot more understanding. I never recommend payplan as they have very B&W thinking, it's why I ended up with a paid DMC.

How much does your wife owe?

Councy tax, rent, water, gas and electric are priority bills, everything else are non-priority debts and outgoings.

Do lodge a complaint with the council and if they do send a summons ensure you attend the hearing as you will get instalments agreed.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Sorry was meant to say pay plan another government free debt charity but I will call national debt line tommrow

Hi, just to say that I'm another one who would recommend StepChange.   https://www.stepchange.org/

They helped me so much. Were very kind and helpful and not at all judgemental. (Which meant a lot as I felt really embarrassed about the financial state I was in.)

I also think a DRO would be more suitable for you and it's only £90 to apply for. Your total debt doesn't appear to be high enough for bankruptcy.

I'd also recommend just not rushing into anything. I know it's very tempting to think you want to get rid of it all immediately but you need to just take a step back, discuss your situation with someone who knows what they're talking about - as I say, I recommend StepChange! Talk through all your options then decide, together with your wife.

Also, yes! Please do lodge a complaint with your council, they are supposed to help people not condemn them. They can't just 'send bailiffs out' anyway, they have to apply to a court first and the court has to notify you.

Good luck, you can do this.

As said please don't rush...get a basic bank account sorted stop paying non priority debts.
Get all your ducks in a row.
The more time going into planning..the easier the experience
  • Can anybody recommend a basic bank account thank you I will speak to stepchange again in the morning and national debt line last time speaking to stepchange, they also recommended bankruptcy but nobody can tell me why a much cheaper debt relief order is not appropriate? They just say its because of my hire purchase cars.
