Tesco van damaged gates

I have been continuing to investigate this myself and have managed to find a company that can get a single motor and mechanism. The biggest issue has been that the motors have been replaced by another version. This company still have old, new stock which is great as only one is damaged. I also found somewhere reasonable for hardwood gates which is what our current gates are.
Not inc Labour, the cost comes to £3726 and I think a carpenter and electrician would only need a few hours.
I will be passing that on to the insurer. Less than half the original quotes!
I have also asked them to have their contractor attend as the original offer I received was based on a desktop quote only and the damage is not obvious to the motor and assembly.
Not really sure I can do much more as spent hours trawling the web for information on parts etc so the ball is back in their court.1 -
So the saga continues. The insurer sent their own contractor to check the damage. He verbally agreed the gates need replacing (both as would be impossible to match).
Also saw the motor and mechanism damage for himself and agreed they needed replacement.
I have just had an email from the insurer saying they still believe the gate is repairable. And have offered £2k
This seems totally against their contractors view and I have asked to see his report.
I am not interested in cash, I just want the gates fixed so not sure where to go with this next?0 -
Wait to check exactly what the contractor has reported back. That will tell you how they intend to repair the gates. You may then be able to dispute it.
Have you contacted your house insurance? They may be able to advise you further?
If you claimed through them I think they would in turn claim from the other party's insurance. company.
Do you have legal cover on your insurance policy? That may be a route also.

Interesting update this morning. I have spoken to the insurer and they are not accepting their contractors quote either!
I have no idea what it was for but this seems to be very odd indeed.
I have told them that I am not interested in a payout and simply want the gates fixed and back to how they were originally and that they can organise it.
I was told they will be in touch but for an insurer to dispute their own contractors quote is a new one on me.
I am contacting my insurer this morning so will see how that goes.1 -
I have just received an email stating they are sending another contractor to look at the damage. This situation is a complete joke0

Next week the OP will be on saying the gate repair company were badgered into repairing and not replacing and the OP had a shonky pair of gates and now has a slightly less shonky pair of gatespowerful_Rogue said:zooankski said:
Just to clarify, both companies said beyond repair, both companies specialise in gates and both advised new installations required. Which I guess is to be expected from them.greyteam1959 said:As other people have asked please tell us what you paid for the gates when they were installed.
I just cannot believe that £10 000 quote for a repair.
Ludicrous.I bet they did! Kerching!
I see this all the time with 5 year old PCs that don't work properly0 -
don't forget your claim is against tesco, and in a way their insurance company is a red herring.
get a quote for the repair from a company you trust. Get 2 quotes even. Then issue a summons in small claims court against Tesco.
Show all the evidence to the judge. Tesco will probably settle before then anyway.1
