Tesco van damaged gates

  • As other people have asked please tell us what you paid for the gates when they were installed.
I just cannot believe that £10 000 quote for a repair.
    Ludicrous.

Just to clarify, both companies said beyond repair, both companies specialise in gates and both advised new installations required. Which I guess is to be expected from them.

Why do you need a pair of motors?  Did he hit both gates?

    I bet they did! Kerching!
You've also got to remember, that by having brand new gates/motors etc, that would be betterment. All you are entitiled to would be a set of 5 year old gates/motors of the same condition prior to the incident.

I agree with you! It is crazy money and my wife and I were shocked at the cost, but having had 2 quotes, both companies saying beyond repair and a new install required I just don’t know what to do!
All I do know is £1700 won’t get me  even a set of gates.
Gates were installed when we moved in 5 years ago so no idea of initial cost.
What I do know, having researched more this evening is that the cheapest  pair of motors that are similar are £1300  which is bonkers too if you ask me.
Found somewhere that makes bespoke gates and a similar set came in at £2200. They are not fancy, in fact almost identical.
is it worth pointing these things out now or just wait to see what they come back with?

As I said earlier, if there are good reasons that they cannot be properly repaired more cheaply then they will have to pay.

I think everybody, including you and Tesco's insurers, are staggered at the quotes you have received. Maybe suggest to them that they commission a report from a chartered surveyor who would independently assess what is needed and whether what is being quoted is a fair price.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

Your insurers are never ever going to pay out £10 000 for this.
    And rightly so.
The gate companies obviously know this is an insurance job & can see the ££££££
