I have found it useful to able to see usage of certain appliances in real time without having to be physically near the IHD (which since I've been confined to my bedroom for the past 2½ months is not even possible right now) and it's useful to see usage in the app at the end of a day rather then being to wait for Octopus to pull it, by which time I'll have forgotten what happened the previous day to tally up with the usage.Telegraph_Sam said:More use / relevant for Agile people than for Trackers?? For the latter all we are concerned with, if we take the time to check, is having a quick and easy check that the values invoiced on a given day are or were accurate without this necessarily being in real time.
It's not been life-changing because we'd already made all the major energy saving changes long before it arrived, but I do like it.0 -
Sorry to hear you've been confined to your bedroom, but can't you get the IHD moved there if you want to check it?Spoonie_Turtle said:

I was under the impression they only work if they're close to the meter. We need a wifi extender up here and I thought the range for zigbee on the IHD was smaller than wifi?Slinky said:

Regardless, we got the Home Mini before my unexpected health crash (just as well, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to set it up). It's simply proved itself more useful in that regard than anticipated

If you're using power generated by your panels it doesn't matter what the Agile price is at the time.Telegraph_Sam said:May I throw into the debate the influence of solar panels. Even without expensive batteries, solars encourage me to act counter to the (Agile) avoid peak times mantra. How to quantify / balance one against the other is above my pay grade.0 -
It's always been a bit of a mystery, just what power is being generated by the panels at any one time, and to what extent that covers my total consumption. I doubt it is 100%Telegraph Sam
There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know0 -
If you check your IHD, you can see if you are importing or exporting electricity and the amount ( in w or Kw) in real time.Telegraph_Sam said:It's always been a bit of a mystery, just what power is being generated by the panels at any one time, and to what extent that covers my total consumption. News to me! I will explore how to do it. Are we talking about the little plug-in device, or the main smart meter itself?Telegraph Sam

Sam - Yes it’s the little plug in device0

Not on mine, with Octopus I’m afraid. And it’s SMETS2.northernsparky said:

I think it depends which model of IHD you have, some switch between showing import and export and some simply show zero import when exporting.
It's not to do with which supplier you're with, as I'm with Octopus too. More likely luck of the draw what model the meter fitter had on his van that day.Barnsley, South Yorkshire
